Did anyone else watch this story on ACA tonight...?

Another cash cow to be milked... not to mention that councils can also then make parking inspectors redundant, thereby saving even more money???
There was that line from the NSW government where they said while they dont encourage the use of covert cameras for use by local councils..... hmmm kettle calling pot black????

Again with the straw man flappist, do you even own another hat? Im yet to meet one person who refers to such offences as worse than murder. Some might argue speeding for example that results in death of an innocent as equal to murder, but hardly worse, and hardly things like parking offences and unregistered vehicles. Straw man, creating a distorted picture of an issue, then poking holes in that distortion as if it relates to the original. You know, the same thing the paranoid did re: responsible gun owners after a handful of nutters went postal. And no, thats not a straw man, its an analogy or simile. I suppose this is another example of the complications of everyday life, this time where you may forget where youve parked your many cars, or for how long?
If youre unaware, then it is sneaky. And I have reservations about how accurate the inputting of time limits will be, or the rorts it may be open too. But then, if you park somewhere, and a parking officer was to give you a ticket the old fashioned way, you'd have a hard time disputing the timing anyway. Whatever you could rely on there you could rely on with the system anyway, or the limitations of not being able to prove anything already apply anyway. Personally I think parking should be free. Maybe the cities have good reason to discourage traffic, but even many smaller towns use parking as a source of revenue. But, its not like you are unaware you need to pay for parking, and have a time limit on said parking. Meh, storm in a tea-cup. I like that it betrays the true agendas of those opposed to anything related to cars and traffic. God forbid we should have laws at all. |

The technology is fine you do get a picture of the car but it does not necessarily prove the car is parked. What if the operator of the vehicle is inside with the engine running the vehicle is then classed by the motor traffic act as being stopped or standing and if such providing there are not no stopping or no standing signs around no law is broken. Would like to see a photo PROVE the car was infact parked and not just standing. How can someone operating a system inside a vehicle know with certainty the car is parked?

The driver of the camera car drives past the same road for whatever time limit is set... ie If its a 2hr free limit, the driver comes back 2hrs later and takes the pictures again.
Only then does a ticket get written Edit: Was wondering though if a car has a parking ticket paid for, the camera operator has no idea when the ticket was purchased and for how long its valid. This sort of camera system is therefor only really good for free parking areas where a limit of how long you can park for free is set. How many cities have free parking areas???

Reckon I saw at least 1 valid defence against any ticket issued in that video alone.
"Yes your honor, I was parked there for approx 10 minutes and then returned to the same street about an hour later and found the same spot still vacant, therefore my 2 hours started again....."
