Lightbulb Volvo KERS system

http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1...nsumption-drop

this sounds interesting, they use a flywheel to store braking energy and use that for take off.

Most F1 technology filters through to road cars at some stage. in an F1 car it gives them an extra 80hp at the push of a button. porsche built a system quite a while ago too i think.

i wonder if volvo are accessing any F1 data. not sure which team they would be linked to. maybe force india?

WILLIAMS F1 have developed a similar system for use in their race car. Porsche has now adopted that tech with Williams as their partner for their GT3 RS Hybrid race model. It has raced in endurance events succesfully since middle of 2010.

Volvo now seems to be following suit and i'm sure many others will be looking at it too.

In fact, Williams are using their IP to turn it into a serious business.

A flywheel type KERS, would be like a shot of NOS for acceleration. Just as they get that extra kick in the F1 cars. The Porsche racer used it to succesfully pull off overtakes too. In their case 160-200 odd hp burst!

Note the link is to last years model. This years has a lighter KERS with more power!
