you have to be kidding, who would pay that much for a GT?
I still dont understand WHY they can get to that price range, when a mock Gt that looks EXACTLY the same, has the same running gear etc, fetches not even half of what they go for!?
its got me stuffed! :

oh.. dont get me started.
It seems to be a bit silly when someone pays $40,000 for a vase, that will sit on a table thats also probably $70,000 and it does nothing..
sh|ts me to tears!

What you or anybody understands or does not understand is irelevant...... If some one wants it bad enough they will pay for it. It will be interesting to see what it actually sells for, did anyone notice the nice XW there for about half the price of the XY??

Very nice car. Only problem with thing's like this is, you'd be too scared to drive the thing... and letting a 300hp 351ci V8 muscle car sit in the garage forever because you're scared of exposing it to the world is a shame. :(

You pay for what you get Rob. Ripped off. Seriously, how can you justify spending that amount of money on a car that is 35 years old. And i don't go for all that rubbish about the fastest every production car. That's all just hype.

some cars for sale i could hand build cheaper, but as for the real deals they are investments and should go up in value on demand, My friends in the USA made heaps on real estate so spending 150K on a shelby is not even a problem.

Why would you buy one?

Oh I don't know, because they will be worth twice that in 5 years?

They don't all sit in garages, I had a ride in one (XW) on Saturday, a nice little 50km round trip.

Guys,

If you want to see some really expensive old cars being driven hard, go down to Phillip Island this weekend.

there was a XY GT with no ID plates (was stolen in the 80's), but had all documented paper work from Ford and police and insurance Company. It sold through auction for $130'000 in December last year in Brisbane.... unbelievable.........If that is any indercation, I would say that it will go for alot more, Say, 150'000..........

Just out of curiosity, are there any classic Holdens that sell for that..

How about 45-55G for a VN SS Group A?

Now you've got to be dreaming, although it has only 3800 on the clock apparently.

they will never get it. They started to appreciate in value for a while. But then the @rse fell out of them and there value has never recovered since.

hmmm, i know what you all mean, i just think that for 100K you could own 3 mock ups that are EXACTLY the same bar the ID tags and crap. I know someone would buy it as an investment, but whats the fun in having a car you wouldnt want to take out on public roads with the fear of it being written off?

yes but the reason collectors buy them is because the Genuine GT will appreciate faster in value where the Fake will not, and the fake could/will drop in value where the GT will not

Not exactly the same mate, a GT is a limited production run of Fords successfull motorsport history, a mockup no matter how powerfull, clean or close to the real thing it gets, will always be fake.

Because if you can afford to throw 100 large at a car to put in a garage for 10 years you can afford to throw 20 grand at a Falcon 500 to make a replica.

Not everyone who's buying these old GTs are into cars. They are just bloody smart and know money when they see it.

I would rather have one of these, 1955 Ford Thunderbird Convertible (LHD)

and with the change I would buy a 1987 Maserati Bi-Turbo Spyder
