Lightbulb Why doesnt FPV make a lightweight edn???

Ok so the latest FPV product is performance oriented. Why dont they market a light edition. It could be done without too much trouble surely.

Delete rear spoiler
Lightweight mags.
Lightweight bonnet
non-elec seats
no CD stacker

It could be the EcoBoost 2.0L engine. Maybe boost that engine a little as well.

A 1600kg Falcon putting out an efficient 200kW.

And to market it differently offer some wild paint or stripe options...push the cashmere leather more. Offer the red leather as well, we saw that in the Force6 and Force8 not long ago.

There is a market for this concept i reckon. Slightly more show oriented basically.

Taking weight out is not as cost effective as simply giving it more power etc.

It's hard to justify raising price when you delete content.

The kind of people who can afford expensive performance cars tend to want as much crap as possible included with the car.

That^^^

And replacing bonnet with a different item will probably need crash testing. Wheels have to pass Fords durability tests, unless the Mustang had something already ticked off it would be too hard too.

They are limited in what they can do.

They only option would be to bring out a GS with the 335 motor, remove spoiler, fit 18 inch alloys, delete spare tyre (put in a goo kit instead), no brembos . They would be lucky to nock 20 kgs off...

They could do something similar to a Mustang Cobra R Model, but to make any sense that would be a homologation car for a racing series (the '93 Cobra R was).

I guess it might work for touring car racing.

Why don't they make a V10 GTHO? Probably the same reasons I'd say.

Porsche has been doing that nicely for years...strip out a 911 down to even having leather straps for interior door handles, give it less equipment in all areas, and raise the price by $50,000...

1788 kg's dry for a GT isn't too bad for a large performance sedan, compared to M5, SRT8, Jag XFR, heck even a SHO Tuarus, all north of 1900 kg's, most north of 1950 kg's.

Yeah get rid of air bags, side protrusion bars, ABS systems, etc... They'd save a heap of weight! I don't know why they haven't thought of this!!

HSV cars arnt exactly light either, but that is not affecting their sales.

the base product has to be light to start with. the last falcons that were known as light (relatively speaking).....was the XD/XE falcons. every model since then has gained weight

It is a good idea in theory. Take out the irs too! But it won't be cost effective.

Would be quite easy, I don't see the complications, lol -no spare, wind up windows, no spoiler, light weight battery, buckets or light reclining sport seats, 'glass or alloy bonnet -30kg off the nose just in that, but might not be legal, no air con. 4 speakers-no more, lighter alloys..would'nt be as hard as ya'll all making out. They would sell if a limited run was made guaranteed. 150kg++ ligher than a fully loaded barge? I realise it won't happen so you can all settle down..

Exactly, and why should they? For the whole 5 people per year that would buy one or the masses on FF who want one but would only buy one second hand?

because 90% of the general public dont want a striped out, more expensive falcon. hell, it seems that not many people want a fully loaded falcon. i think the direction they are going is the best. they need more tech though, voice control, keyless start, radar cruise etc there are things available on a 25k focus that you cant even get on on a 85k gte

Nearly all the FPV's (and HSV's for that matter) out here that I see are lease cars...if you ask the people that own them if they'd walk in off the street and lay down their cash on one themselves, they say no...they'd go for something more "normal".

I wonder how much extra we are paying for "normal" cars to prop up the sales of FPV's and HSV's...after all, they're a car that the vast majority of people just like to know exists, even if they never have an intention of ever buying one themselves...

FPV have already built it for you..

grab a B series FPV for chicken feed, strip to its undies, throw some brake, suspension etc mods at it....

If you want a pin point, light weight, track ready car for FPV/HSV coin go buy a Evo or STi.
If you want a big lumpy cruiser with oodles of power go buy a FPV/HSV.
Simple really.

Good on you for your Passion for the Marque
However much you want Ford to succeed you may find it best not to show too much here because your passion can be very quickly ridiculed.

Good idea from a passionate Ford fan.

Pity the comments from those who can't stand to have Ford Au questioned....

The car could easily be done. Drop in price to match. Another option for the Ford fan to buy.....

Nope ..... not in this case. Throw something out there and not everyone will agree. Its the way things are. Not everyone will agree and opinions will vary. No other way of putting it really.

If things get too heavy ...... then it will be looked at. All good so far ....... back with the topic ...... in the nicest possible way please.
