Interesting podcast. Explains in very simple terms the infection process, and also the differences between the testing kits - PCR vs at home molecular vs at home antigen. Start at 3:00 for general covid blah blah, start at 13:10 for testing.

https://open.spotify.com/episode/57v...iIQ&t=180&nd=1

From what I can gather, at home antigen, which is what we are given, needs the highest viral load to return a positive result, which might explain why some people have a negative RAT but a positive PCR. It would seem if you want to rely on RAT, like for high risk settings, you should be testing consecutive days during your at risk period. Fat chance with current supply.

My conclusion from this podcast is...RAT or no RAT, its going to spread. People will return a false negative RAT, go to work, and spread it. This might also explain why health officials were not keen to use RAT during delta.

I received an email today from Dept of Health WA.

Just said that I should get my booster shot immediately, your details show us that you are severely immunocomprimised.
This has been recommended by ATAGI.
Get your booster immediately?

Have still got a month to go on my calendar?

Yes I know, but if you read what I wrote, then you'd perhaps have noticed that the ~50k RAT tests were spread back over the last 7 days in line with the announcements from NSW.

Unfortunately, the "science" is not about sending one man back, that would be easy.

It's about whether to rocket Australia backwards on the international stage.

Yes, rocket Australia backwards on the International stage

Make a stand Australia, stop sitting on the fence, this DjoCovid issue is in reality not an issue at all, it's a good and fair and honest reason for Australia to show its big Steel Balls, stop being dictated to by Serbia who obviously need something we have, as in we export they import, what is going on in this whole equation

Something is missing and we the people are not being told, why is ScuMo talking to the Serbian President??

PS...And why suddenly is the Spanish Govermint trying to curry favour with Australia, why are they suddenly popping their heads up, it's like an old fashioned Turkey shoot, stand up Australia!

As for RAT tests, we were offered them last year by the manufacturer in Queensland, we said no and the US said yes, so another failure by ScuMo, they are being manufactured in the USA because Australia was complacent, the RAT is an Australian innovation and like every other great Aussie idea/invention it's been financed overseas, what a lack of foresight by ScuMo

Delays in approval. And even if they are approved now, there is no guarantee of stock. Other countries have made orders which would need to be fulfilled.

They have been in production from the early days, and approved by the US authorities since 2020, I remember them saying Australia would not back the building of the manufacturing facility in Australia, so the USA jumped on it!

Wish I had some shares in it, and they may not be 100% percent accurate but neither is the current NAAT RT-PCR testing accurate, apparently they pool the swabs and test them as a group, which is logical and speedy, so they may test 10 swabs with one procedure, if negative then they have saved time, but if positive then they have to isolate the offending swab, but that's how it's done, they do not individually do PCR on each sample?......they are pooled

I'd be surprised if the world governing body of tennis didn't have a very strict policy on all this given the international travel circuit ..Majors , main tennis tournaments everywhere , Olympics , Davis Cup , Fed Cup etc etc..

Just curious .. I don't follow tennis that much to be honest but will like to watch Wimbledon , Aussie Open , French and US Open on TV .

Given the pandemic's far reaching tentacles surely sports like tennis , golf , cricket and such need to have and strictly adhere to as uniform as possible policies that all players understand implicitly .

This Aus Open thing is a total mess and embarrasses Australia in particular and the sooner it's decided the better for all ..

They're saying that Djokovic might be allowed to play while it's fought out in court . That makes it even worse . This is dumb ..

It's worse than dumb, dumb is an understatement, I'm in Perth, nice and safe, but when I think of what the Victorian residents have had to put up with for 2 years, lost jobs, lost income, loss of hope, and this idiotic thing just swans in making a mockery of the people of Victoria who all or mostly toed the Government line!

I have a different view as a Vic. We were encouraged to get 90% vaxxed so that we can start to have some sort of normality. We got there. I really see no point holding resentment towards those who are unvaxxed, we aren't going to get anywhere, they no longer really pose a big health threat to society. We are never going to get to "live with it" if we keep this up.

I'm not a fan of joker but I would love to see the best compete in events held here. The city needs it, the foot traffic, for traders, employment, hope.....everything you mentioned.

That's from a health perspective, if he has broken immigration laws, then bye bye!

Australia
NSW records 63,018 cases in the current period and the 10-day average growth rate increases to 1.1457 (from 1.1052) while the actual line is well above the predictive trend line. Those numbers probably include some RAT test results for other days and the Government has admitted some may have been recorded twice but we’ll have to go with the reported number until they sort it.

VIC records 34,836 cases in the current period and the 10-day average growth rate decreases to 1.2183 (from 1.2192) while the actual line remains below the predictive trend.

No States set new daily highs yesterday (13/1).

Finally, here is the predictive trend graph for three States based on cases since Omicron was identified which, for our purposes, will be taken as December 1st. Note that Queensland numbers are a day behind the other two States.

This will be interesting to see how it functions. I thought one of the biggest constraints on the system at the moment was staff. This solution won't do anything to fix that issue:

Victorian quarantine hotels will be used to care for recovering COVID-19 patients
Victorian quarantine hotels will soon be used to care for recovering COVID-19 patients to help take the strain off the state's hospitals.

It comes as the state's COVID-19 hospital admissions have reached 976 patients, another record high.

Deputy Premier James Merlino says it will ease pressure on the hospital system.

He says patients will still be considered in-patients and they will be thoroughly assessed before being transferred.

Even the Government Department charged with supporting those impacted by Covid are having trouble:

Quote:
Services Australia puts call out for 500 extra staff to deal with surge in pandemic payment applications
By Matthew Doran

The spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 is putting immense pressure on Services Australia, with the agency issuing a callout to federal public servants for help in processing applications for emergency financial support.

Australians forced to self-isolate or quarantine because they've been infected with COVID-19, have come into close contact with a person who has the virus, or are caring for someone who's been infected can apply for the pandemic leave payment worth up to $750 a week — if they're not getting any other income during that time.

An email sent to public servants announced Services Australia needed an extra 500 staff for the next two months – a request which had been approved by Australian Public Service Commissioner Peter Woolcott and the Secretary of the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, Phil Gaetjens.

"Services Australia has already surged its workforce and mobilised non-service delivery staff within the Agency to meet the extraordinary demand for assistance," the email said.

"Additional assistance from across the APS is now sought to implement these internal arrangements.

"The work will involve the processing of the Pandemic Leave Disaster Payment claims submitted online by customers.

"Employers participating in this surge will be an integral part of the Australian Government's response to the current COVID-19 situation, and will be supporting the Australian community at a time of critical need."

APS managers have also been asked to consider pausing non-essential work, so that staff can be seconded to Services Australia.

lol... I did a pre-order for my RAT test kits the other so hopefully should see them in the next 4 weeks, just can't rely on shops or pharmacies these days for supplies to come in.
In the meantime I will have to suppress any symptoms I may get.

Good luck fellas... if you have ordered individual kits you might get them, but bulk orders are being confiscated commandeered at the borders. Big businesses, who have ordered bulk for their staff, are reporting that their shipments are being taken under Government Emergency Requisition.

Here is an article from a day ago indicating its happening.....

Gotta disagree T3, but in a gentlemanly manner, I'd sooner not have a job or lose business if it meant just one "big name" any sport cant have it his own way for once in his life, he is the best though, the best at arrogance and being a person of legendary status in his own mind, we don't need him, the tournament will go on without him, the traders will still trade, the workers will work and Australia will give a big sigh of relief, and get on with more important things than DjoCovid and his big ego........

That’s not the point coupe but rules are rules….
What I don’t understand but I hope it’s turned on them in due course is he wouldn’t boarded a plane without TA Tiley and Vic Health arranging the exemption in the first place !
They also should be run through the hot coals over this debacle…..
Tiley wanted his no1 draw card in the hope he broke the slam record at the AO.

Giving the same people who are responsible for promoting the game the authority to grant exemptions....what could go wrong?

But seriously, take the politics out of it, think about it. Visa granted first. If exemption wasn't granted, Joker could technically fly to Australia, walk the streets of Melb, but not compete in the AO. Would have made us an even bigger laughing stock.

An update on my pcr test which I took Wednesday last week (5th Jan). Received this text this morning:

Dear CRAIG
Your COVID-19 PCR sample collected 05/01/2022 is no longer suitable for processing and no result can be provided.
It is recommended you undertake a COVID-19 rapid antigen test (RAT), or self-quarantine for 7 days post your first test date.
For information on what to do if you test positive and for contacts, please visit https://www.coronavirus.vic.gov.au/checklist-cases

Well, as you know I've had a RAT which returned a negative result, but because I was symptomatic (still have mild symptoms now) I decided to take the PCR as a precaution. There's no point in following the advice to isolate for 7 days from the test date: it's been 10!

So, whilst I think it is unlikely, it is possible that I have covid and have been out and about in the community, although I've tried to limit my time somewhat.

The system is not coping well with the omicron wave.

It's makes you just want to go back to bed Sky Pilot and wake up again and hope it's all normal again, the government is again compounding, folding under pressure, your situation is seemingly dire and you are unsure what to do next!......bad business from State and Federal Governments

So Hillsong Church again flaunts the law and holds a summer camp for youth, and they knew certain restrictions were in place for such gatherings, and they get a police caution, no fine imposed, wonder if ScuMo stuck his beak in, or the police were too scared to offend in case they were hauled over the coals, we all have to comply, why is it Sports people, and certain charismatics are protected
