Default Cheaper Air intake options

Hey guys,

I called Difilippo and got a quote for their 3" intake below and it was $450 + delivery..

Thats WAY to much for my liking... Its not made of gold!

I do need a bigger, and better intake soon, but I cant justify paying almost $500 for one WITHOUT a filter..

What are my other options? What else can I buy thats this quality and for less? Or is there any way I can get this intake, but not for that money??

Cheers,
Matt

PS: Whats so special about this intake to make it so expensive?

I have thought of that option and had one quoted, but the quality would be questionable..

I might have to ask again and see what they can do, as that price is nuts.

Ive had mandrel intake pipes made by exhaust places and their quality has been quite good. As long as they make sure that the pipe clears everything ok and will fit under the bonnet nicely and wont foul anything when closed, it should be fine. I have heard of prices ranged from $200-$300. Thats fair, considering they need to make it to fit your car accordingly. $450 isnt a good price, but you would be paying for the name as well as the polished look too.

That would be great Aust, very handy!

I agree Blueoval.. If its a good quality exhaust place they should be able to do it, im just iffy with people in Wagga's workmanship of late! Most thing's I get other people to do, stuff up. When I do it myself MOST of the time it works, and works well. I have NFI what im doing though. So I cant weld my own =(

With the one from Difilippo, you get one made up that fits perfect, and even has a lug for attaching it making actually legal (in QLD anyway). Out of everyone I know of with a three inch intake, they are either loose, rattle like hell or dont line up properly. If I ever have to buy one or get one made up again, I will probably go the Difilippo route.

Perhaps you should look into a second hand Territory intake, from the TB to the box?

The Difilippo intake is also ceramic coated.

if this is true, then $450 represents reasonable value. Ceramic coating isnt cheap.

Its still a poor design IMHO - you need to have the curve begin straight out of the TB, as it will go over the top of the extractors other wise, just as these do.
Flow and turbulence doesnt really come into play it enters the top of a BBM.. not exactly the best for smooth flow...

I may be wrong. I'm confused between the Pacemaker one and the DiFilippo one. At least one of them is ceramic coated.

Its a costly lesson innit, I never get things done around here anymore. Lowering + tune done in Melbourne, exhaust came from Melbourne and I put it on myself - dont trust any of them. Not with the FG after the crap that I put up with on the AU.

Yeah I have had crap go wrong from workshops forgetting to put my intake snorkle back on, doing up wheels studs too tight, using left over sub cable wiring as a headunit bracket,.... its painful that you pay more and get less!!

Thinking of all the dodgey crap thats happened, $450 is child play lmao!!

Any luck getting a price Austin?
