Default Ford focus 2008 upgrade or not?

Hi I was wondering if my car was a ford focus LT CL 2008 upgrade/facelift model or not.

I contacted metro ford brisbane, gave them my vin and they were unable to tell me. What they gave me was stuff I could find on the compliance plates itself.
(not very helpful)
Your vehicle is a 2008 LT CL model. Build date: 04/09/2008. 2.0L Petrol Sedan

My vehicle looks like this http://www.carsguide.com.au/cars-for...hineCoast.html

this http://www.carsales.com.au/dealer/de.../?Cr=1&sdmvc=1
and this http://www.carsales.com.au/private/d.../?Cr=0&sdmvc=1

It does not look like this http://www.carsales.com.au/dealer/de...?Cr=18&sdmvc=1

I did not take any pictures of my car yet because I am at work. I need this for insurance purposes and would like to be as accurate as possible.

To my untrained eye, the main distinct difference seems to be the shape of the wing mirror indicator lights and the shape of the forward-lower grille.

Other than that. Let me know what other details I can provide you.

I've seen so many different models with subtle differences across so many years that I am getting confused. If somebody could point out the difference (or show me pictures) between a 2008 facelift model compared to a 2008 non-facelift model. It would be really great!

Thanks in advance

your question is a bit vague...

of the previous generation Focus there were 3 versions which are essentially the same mechanically but all looked a little different. with each change of model they received a 'facelift' so not quite sure what our question is.

the LV had a facelift over the LT which had a facelift over the LS

in your links above you have 3 x LT focus and 1 x LV focus - the last one

the one that is advertised as "2007 Ford Focus LS LX Sports " actually appears to be an LT unless they have replaced the front bar and added indicators to the side mirrors (the LS lacked these)

the LV has a curved headlight

It is most probably a LV model as the Model year tends to run from about August in the first year to august the next year thus an LT model may be built in either second half of 2007 or first half of 2008

Try putting your vin in here. It will give you details on your car, and from memory, the specific model.

I am aware of these 3 (LS/LT/LV) variants.

However, in the RACQ website, two options were presented to me after keying in the basic vehicle specifications such as year/model/auto/sedan/petrol. There were other options such as the 08 UPGR ZETEC/GHIA/LX/CL or the LT ZETEC/GHIA/LX/CL and I am pretty sure mine is a CL. There was no LV option here.

If I switch the year entered to 2009, I get the options for the LV variants or the LT O8 UPGR variants

This suggests that the LT, LT 08 UPGR, and LV are somehow different in some way.

So I have to figure out how to tell the difference. I've tried searching everywhere but can't seem to find any information on this. Most of it is just describing the difference between LS/LT/LV.

Also Thanks Fishman for the link. Did not help though.

That is all the information I got from the website. Maybe you guys would know how to decipher it better than me.

I find it frustrating that the Ford websites (for AU and US) have no specific customer service email address. It just keeps redirecting to their dealers and I have already tried that avenue of asking.

Its a great mystery!

I don't think the LV came out in Australia until 2009 (March?), and it had the later "Kinetic" styling. The equivalent model is also known as the "facelift" version of the "Mk2" in the UK. I'm thinking yours is an LT.

Is there a way to differentiate between a LT and a LT 08 UPGRADE model?

I'm not sure if the insurance will be void if I pick the wrong model.

LT came in at July 2007, replaced by LV in May 2009.

There was a minor equipment change in May 2008 (CL models got side airbags and XR5 spec changes).

Series 20 is entry level, so is an LT model, CL badge

Your car is an LT.

I take it my Ford 2008 LT is an upgrade model, because it has side airbags (not curtain).

Are there any differentiating factors?

No - its not really regarded as an upgrade, it was more just a specification adjustment. An upgrade/facelift will typically have styling differences too.

You make a very good point and I would be inclined to follow your line of thought.

However, RACQ presented me with these options after I had filled in the appropriate fields. E.g 2008, focus, sedan, petrol, automatic.

So, having to choose between a 08 LT CL or 08 upgrade LT CL.

In your opinion which would be the correct choice to pick. (Ugh, wonder where RACQ gets all that information from to begin with)

I'm so confused with all this car/badge/styling nomenclature.

Your car is regarded as the upgrade model as it is Sept.08 build

LV came in 2008, there was an 08 LV XR5 Turbo.

Also there was no MKII XR5 Turbo, it was just LV not LVII. The last XR5's had a couple of differences, like recessed starter button and short gear shift.

Thanks - I was referring to the model in the original question. The XR5 and Cabrio versions were earlier.

Sept 2008 CL LT facelift/upgrade, same as mine. Does it have the smooth pack?

Annoying differences include same brake subtleties as CC, meaning '08 September onwards has pricier brake pads and rotors. (if you go by the book)

Smooth pack?

Yea. I'm not sure what CC brakes are. Is it a brand? It is all round disc brakes though (was pretty impressed with that)

Hi Guys,

I have just bought a 2008 LT CL Auto, wasn't sure it was worth making a new thread.

Wondering if anyone knows what the revs should be at 100/110 km/h?
