howdy all,
In the middle of fitting a BA XR8 pod style air box.(to fill the gap) Do i- (a)- have a flanged plate to bolt upto old fixings, use small peice of hose and clamp off at each end or.. (b)- grind down sides of Mass Air Flow Sensor body and slip a 90mm silicon sleeve over it?? Opinions please. (also keep in mind i will not be going back to the original setup so returning to stock is not an option)

I would personally go with a flange adaptor, silicone pipe and jubilee clamps.

Why do you need to grind anything? You only need one Pod filter adapter for an AU (around $25 from Autobarn, supercheap etc) and a 3" silicon joiner with 2 clamps - about $10 or $15. The BA Pod entry is 3.5", but the 3" joiner will stretch over it for a nice tight fit. You can also use a small section of bent 3" pipe and another silicon joiner like this:

Or if you're feeling tight, instead of using a pod adapter, do what I did, and grab an EF Falcon airbox tube (sits inside the lid of an EF), cut it down, and bolt that to the MAF and use it as an adapter.

Thanks for the input folks. Nah i am not feeling tight- money has nothing to do with it. Was looking for a smoother look as all the joins and square bits really dont do it for me.
But thanks for all your suggestions.

I wouldnt bother grinding down the flange back to round, I'd just cut straight through it behind the flange then grind that little gusset down.
Then yeah one silicone/rubber joiner, small 3" manrel bent piece of stainless/aluminium pipe then another 3" joiner onto airbox and shes all done. Will be looking into doing exactly that on the missus car soon.

take a look inside the MAF housing, there is not much to cut. thats why i thought grinding it back is a better idea, then with the slightly raised edge it measures externally 90mm- same as top of BA airbox lid.

Yeah thats why you use a 1mm cutting disc, it will do it no worries.

Will be interested how this pans out. I am looking for options for when I run a 90mm maf. Seems that this or a 03/04 cobra intake is the other option..

What i need is one of those 4" power pipe pod lids as they are 4" diameter hole and it will all bolt up nice. |

why not just run a shortened, 90mm joiner over the airbox lid (same length as the lid flange) and clamp the lot together? a thick joiner will take up at leats 5-7mm??
