Default General Purpose Trolley Jack

Hi All.

Obviously may not be suitable for lowered cars. But the lift height and weight rating isn't too bad.

Repco have this on special. For $79

https://www.repco.com.au/en/tools-eq...000/p/A5465928

Cheers.

Forgot to mention, lifting range is 130 - 465mm

Make sure you buy stands too - then make sure you actually use them

Had an incident a couple of months ago where it was raining and windy and jacked up a trailer in the driveway to change wheels, I got the jack out and the stands, but forgot to put the stands under the trailer - of course the trailer slipped off the jack and crushed my wrist between the wheel guard and the half off wheel

Hi Franco.

Sorry to hear about your accident. I have 4 3000kg ratchet stands, which my car is up ATM.

My old trolley jack has seen better days.

I use the trolley at the front or back, as well as the ratchet stands, if I'm grovelling around under the car, just as a safety measure.

I've had a close call with just a trolley jack and an enthusiastic dog bashing the jack handle, trying to get under the car with me.

As soon as I saw the word repco the exact same thoughts entered my head.

Seems like a good value trolley jack. Tempting!

Yeah stands for sure if its more then changing a wheel on the side of the road with the factory scissor jack. I have a cheap sca 2000g trolley jack, at its low is 130mm, and i still need to use the scissor jack to be able to get the trolley jack under the car. Its factory ride height. I got the cheap sca one as a package deal with 2 jackstands (ratchet style that i do not like, i already had pin style ones) for about $200. If it was for frequent use, i would deffinately invest in a better jack. But if it only has to hold the car up for long enough to slide stands under, yeah, not terrible.

Hi fiestaz.

For the price, I don't think you will find anything with the weight capacity, and they will be under 400mm lifting range.

I'm going to see if I can grab one this week. I think they will sell pretty quick for that price.

Cheers.

Whoa!! Easy does it Gutza - you need to be careful uttering that five letter word around here! It might be pertinent to err on the side of caution and use a code name - how about 'Replacement Parts Company'.

I'd love to make comment on your imminent jack purchase but unfortunately I've been expertly diagnosed on the Ctek thread with a rare condition that apparently means I 'like to show off and brag by buying something by brand name.'

So mate I'd probably only tell you to buy a Snap-on or nuthin'!

P.S. At $79 I reckon that's a bargain!

I've got one of them and can say it is a top jack, you'll be surprised when you see it, it's much larger than you think looking at it in the pics, and is great to use.

Side by side with my 1800kg Jack, it's like putting an F150 next to a Proton Jumbuck.

I got mine on sale for $79, and at that price again I wouldn't hesitate to grab another.

Can you explain why it’s poor quality?

What if the one now on sale at Repco - not Supercrap where you bought yours - has been subtly improved to overcome this fault? By your admission, yours was bought several years ago.

Some grammar would be really helpful here.

As Citroen said, yours is a few years old, was this a problem straight away? How do you know this has not been improved since?

As Fiestaz said some punctuation would help to decipher what you are trying so say. After reading through it 2-3 times I THINK you mean there is a problem turning the release valve to lower the jack, not realy sure!!

Default Re: General Purpose Trolley Jack

Bolly, I think your problem is more likely to be due to the jack handle connection splaying out over time, if so it wil not grip the valve sufficiently and you will have less control, if any, when opening the valve.

Take a look at the end of the jack handle where it connects onto the jack valve.

Using vice grips or the like, hopefully you should be able to squeeze the end of the jack handle and close it back to its original state.

Tack welding to build it back up is another option.

I find its much easier to control the lowering of the jack by using two hands on the handle and slowly turning, and feeling for when the valve is opening.

Never ever go under a car held up by a jack alone

Jack stands are an absolute must I reckon, I use wheel chocks too

I bought my trolley jack a quite few years back from Repco, think it was just over $100 maybe $130 they were pretty hard to find cheap. but have to say looking at that one i think mine is better quality.

APAC was the last fully Australian made jack that I can remember?
Speaking of which... I had a mechanical APAC trolley jack many moons ago (as in pic) would lift 4 ton.
Great jack when in good condition, but once mechanism got a little worn, they were a death trap!.. Would drop quicker than Marie Antoinette’s guillotine!

it looks like the same 2t jack i brought from repco many years ago, the one i got is a good jack and is approx. 700mm , its not tiny. its regularly used without fault.
i have a picture of it lifting up my 65hp (heavy, not a garden) tractor.
