Default engine swap procedure

What are the proper procedures for an engine swap with regard to paperwork and/or notifying the department of transport in QLD?
And if the transport department does need to clear/approve the engine swap will they also go over the rest of the vehicle and possibly fail the whole process for non engine related problems eg rust?
I'm not doing anything ****ster-ish. Just current engine is giving me grief and may have to replace it with another one of the same kind.

All you have to do is inform them of the change in engine numbers if the motor our fitting is the same as the one your removing

i would say that they would want to sight the engine number.

unless the car is obviously unroadworthy they would probably be too busy to go right over it.
take it in on a stinking hot day and they will be wanting to get back inside to the aircond lol.

VIN doesn't change, it's noted on the database and will show up on the computer for any vehicle checks

Not a real hassle pretty sure you can even do it over the phone.

They wont need to sight the engine as long as its a straight swap with the same type of engine or one fitted from factory.

But on my VIN plate it gives both a VIN and engine number.

So does mine, but there's no need to make any changes on the plate. My car doesn't have the original motor even though it's written on the VIN plate. The DOT will just make the changes on their computer.

the vin plate states what the car was / had when it left the factory. it is illegal to change anything on the vin plate

transport dept will change the engine number on their records and on your rego papers.

i havent had to change engine number in qld , i was going on what we had to do in nsw when i said they would need to see the number. must be a bit more casual up here.

Yes, just roll up at Queensland transport , they will sight the number in the block and go back inside and update the computer. Did this when I put in the US built motor.

You could be lucky and not even have them sight the car. I changed the engine number on my EL at the begining of the year and I just called up and the made the change over the phone

Are you sure about this? Because going off the engine number on the VIN plate the engine is apparently from a different model Ford.

Different model or not any modification to a VIN plate is a big NO NO and seen in the same light as someone rebirthing a vehicle! As has been said above the DOT or what ever they're called in each state will update their database and it will show on your rego sticker and any authorities (DOT, Police, etc.) computer.
