Default Charging an EFB

Hi guys,
First car with an Enhanced Flooded Battery and want to make sure it’s healthy.

In terms of charging the car appears to treat it like an AGM battery but most charger instructions say you can charge an EFB the same way as a Lead Acid battery.

When you use your charger on an EFB do you choose Lead Acid mode or AGM mode?

EFB is just a beefed up version of a normal lead acid battery,

Lead acid use a different charge profile to an AGM, lead acid charge at a slightly lower voltage than what an AGM does, as in a few points of a volt - stick to lead acid profile IMO but I reckon much of a muchness.

Thought so just curious. Will stick to normal lead acid charging whenever I want to maintain it then.

For the record Varta recommended charging EFB the same as AGM. I can confirm this works. When my Start-Stop didn’t work and charging with Lead Acid mode didn’t work. When I charged with AGM mode start stop now working again.

Hey stefic, not sure if you found this page in your search, but it may be of some use to you.

Interestingly, the recommendation from Ctek appears to be to charge EFB the same way you would a standard lead acid battery.

Hope that helps.

I took the information from here.
https://batteryworld.varta-automotiv...ge-car-battery
Since my battery is a Varta one seems ok to follow their guide.

I’m using a Noco Genius 5. Interesting CTEK’s condition mode can be used on EFB but Noco recommends to only use its Repair mode on lead-acid.
