Default Learner driver accident

Last night as I was heading down Burke Road, I was following a learner with her mum in the passenger’s seat, she was all over the road and sitting 1/4 in the left lane, every time a on coming car got near her she would swerve into the left lane and then swing back into the right hand lane :,
Any way about 2 minutes later the dog that was on the mothers lap jumped from the passengers side (mums lap) and onto the girl driving, and in doing so the girl pooped herself and swerved into the on coming traffic and then swung back onto the left hand side of the road and side swiped 2 parked cars, we were only doing 45/50 km/h but the damage was quite severe, the young girl driving was about 17 yo and the mother was in her late 40's and was shaken by the accident.
The family that owned the station wagon as well as the woman who owned the selica were ****ed as, when I told then what had happened with the dog jumping from one side of the car to the other, I gave my details as a witness and then kept on going to pick up the pizzas.

The mum needs a kick in the head. A dog while a learner is driving?

I thought dogs were meant to stay at the passenger and stay no where near the driver, even the mother should of try to kept the dog on her lap and help her daughter considerate on the road not on the dog

Aparently not! Amazing! The innovators of road safety policy and legislation are sleeping on the job! I've seen cars with a great big malamute lurching from side to side as the driver goes around corners. An accident waiting to happen. Not good for the dog OR the road using public.

I thought the 'instructor' (whether they be a parent etc or professional), wore the points and fines that a learner gets? I'm sure this was the case when i was learning....

None the less, moron. Mother had probably had a few too many afternoon glasses of cask...

lol gotta love the law with its infinate holes. soon they are talking about banning roll cages on modified cars on the street (4 point cage max) yet your allowed to drive a car with no roof _

and afaik the instructor takes the blame.

In WA, all animals must be restrained with an approved harness.

humans are required to be restrained by seat belts yet animals arent....crazy

give the girl a break. the mother should not of let her be driving and maybe she'd never driven before in her life. i remember when i was on my L's and stalled on a hill and it took me about 2 lights changes to get the car to not stall up a hill :P i hate clutches that are the ON/OFF style.

rhysy boy.......if she'd never driven before in her life she SHOULDNT HAVE BEEN ON THE ROAD without an instructer not her MOTHER...

put it in perspective....

if she had run over and killed somebody.....would you still be saying give her a break??

people seriously need to be taught how to drive before being let loose on the roads behind the wheel of a car...

its very scary to actually sit down and think of what could be coming torwards you on the road:S

Anytime I take the dog in the car, she is always in her harness and clipped into the seatbelt for this exact reason. Can happen to anyone regardless of experience.

How could someone be so stupid as to drive on the wrong side of the road?

Dogs have to be restrained when in the tray of utes (As far as I know, it is law in some states)... Why not inside the car as well?

Ok...

Many faults here...

Girl is not yet experienced nor skilled enough to be on the open road. When you can't stay in your lane properly, that speaks for itself. Driving in a straight line is not hard.

Secondly, the mother is a stupid retard who frankly doesn't deserve a license, nor should she be allowed to instruct as:
a) Her judgement as an experienced driver should have determined that her daughter is not experienced, skilled or confident enough to drive in any traffic, and
b) Dogs SHOULD be strapped in with a dog harness which are available at all good pet stores. The fact she had a dog on her lap is *** stupid enough, but to then lack control of it and let it interfere with the driver shows she needs re-testing.

Sorry, but I can't stand stupidity.

When I started on my Ls, on a Sunday morning my old man took me out to the carpark at my local shopping centre @ 7am. There I learned how to SAFELY accelerate (I hear many Learners plant their foot on the accelerator and burnout), get basic control of the car as well as braking. This helped me immensely.

After that, once a week on a Sunday I would drive on mostly empty roads getting a basic feel for the car.

Once I was comfortable enough, I began to drive everywhere.

Learning to drive isn't a one-step process. It isn't a case "jump in the car and drive".

Cars are expensive pieces of machinery, as well as the most dangerous if we aren't taught how to use them properly.

You need to be taught in stages and respond to the learner's needs...not your own agenda. Use your judgement.

Blah blah blah

Poopie Farty Bum Whisker Smelly Nappy

I've said enough.

Fire away with flame.....I was young and didn't think but when i was on my l's i drove around on my own in my first car for most of the period i was on my p's

Surprisingly the accidents eventuated when i got my P's

Im just saying that not everyone will have to take baby steps to be safe on the road
