Default Lincoln MKC Concept Debuts in Detroit

http://www.autoblog.com/2013/01/13/l...-real-promise/

Looks very interesting indeed! Hopefully it's as close to the real thing as the MKZ "concept" was to the eventual model...

I like it too. This is the one based off Escape?

I reckon this is the only Lincoln where that stupid grille works. Something is right in the proportions that is totally wrong on the MKZ and MKS.

Yeah, global C-platform, so Focus, Escape etc.

May even debut a new engine (2.7 EBV6)...

Well... I was going to post this in my Lincoln Thread.

I however think that this car while being very attractive, is also quite derivative. And Has lots of VW Group brand themes.

However this car does look the part, especially inside, and hopefully they don't change this as much as the MKZ interior when it went production.

EDIT: Also there is a video of the car in the link for anyone who hasn't thought about checking it out.

The rear end from that angle looks like its kuga based?

It's developed off the Escape/Kuga platform, yes, and will most certainly have 5 seats come production.

Hey now that's not bad. It would sell well in an SUV-hungry market like ours too.

I must say the new Lincoln grille and headlight design is much better than the old one.

Don't you think a thin aluminium spine that ran from the front to the back, and became the centre line of the badge would look sexy?

I don't think that would work with the layout - there's the beautiful glass roof and it'd meet up with the "C" on the rear.

I quite like that; how does it compare size wise with the Territory? Is there any chance of it coming here?

Edit: Just saw from above it's Escape/Kuga platform based, so it will be smaller.

I just wish they stopped naming their whole range with random letters. How do they expect to get any name recognition with names like that?

The same way all the other premium automakers (goodness, I can say that here without fear of flaming!) do. Mercedes is the worse at this lately IMO - e.g. "CLS63 AMG" or "SL63 AMG".

Alas poor names, for we knew them well... -_-

Yeah, that was a horrible decision.

And I don't care about Lincoln crossovers. I wish they'd come up with a true new Town Car/Continental premium sedan.

At the moment Lincoln has just become the new Mercury, and I don't see that being enough to make it survive.

Mulally has said he wants to save Lincoln, though, and after reading about what he did for both Boeing and Ford I find it difficult to say he can't do it.

Great idea. Lincoln should impulsively spend all their money developing a car that wouldn't sell enough to make a profit - no matter how good it is - and completely ignore where the real sales - therefore profits - are at in the marketplace.

Why does it take sooooo long for the bleeding obvious to sink in to some people?!

Whaddya know? A positive attitude about the future - would be nice if more people could feel that way...

Lincoln needs a reason to exist. A pleasant crossover isn't a reason to exist. A possible alternative to Acura (which is in the toilet and has been for years) isn't a reason to exist.

Currently Lincoln is what Mercury used to be--and Mercury no longer exists. Ford either needs to make Lincoln into a true luxury marque, which requires a true luxury sedan, or Lincoln needs to go away.

I'll repeat my dream again: common chassis for Falcon, Mustang, and a new Lincoln sedan. It fits with One Ford, and it lets three comparatively low-volume vehicles share a platform for economy of scale.

Ford has already said that the next Mustang will be built in LHD and RHD form and that it will have IRS. That makes it a natural to share a chassis with Falcon. Ford doesn't seem to have any intention of bringing the Falcon over here (it would compete with both Fusion and Taurus), so why not make a Lincoln version that won't be seen as a rebadged domestic Ford with more chrome?

RWD definitely needs to be in the future for Lincoln, as it is now with Lexus and Infinti.

The jaguar XF is no more than a stretched S-type, which in turns shares much design with the Lincoln LS. Lincoln has the DNA for a modern RWD prestige sedan; Ford, it seems, just doesn't want to build one.

You're suggesting Ford pull out a platform it mothballed years ago and spend lord-knows-how-much stretching it so that, as others have said, it can make a car no-one will buy?

I think a RWD platform is in Lincoln's future plans, but it needs to prove itself to be a viable brand first. Lincoln is back to learning to walk again. Give it time before you expect it to run...

Ford dont have to touch DEW98 to get back in the game. Falcons E8 has in the past been heavily rumoured to be a starting point of a new global RWD architecture and between that and Mustang's platform they'd have all they need.

You believe E8 can run toe-to-toe with the 5er and 5-Class in terms of refinement, comfort and overall handling? Isn't that a bit over confident?

For Lincoln to do RWD, they need to do it right - start again and build a new lightweight platform and go from there. Not a parts-bin special from 10+ year old cars...
