Interesting question that. Because the infection rate didn't seem to matter when this took place not too long ago around Australia.

On a side note, is there any indication if the the number of cases of the common flu have also been reduced by social distancing.
Does anyone know of anyone having it in the last month or so?

I heard on one of the news broadcasts that the flu has reduced by 99 % compared to same time last year.

The epidemiologist who led Sweden's controversial COVID-19 response, which did not involve a strict lockdown, now says that the country should have done more to stop the spread of the virus, according to news reports.

"If we were to run into the same disease, knowing exactly what we know about it today, I think we would end up doing something in between what Sweden did and what the rest of the world has done," Anders Tegnell, the state epidemiologist of the Public Health Agency of Sweden, told Swedish Radio on June 3, according to Reuters.

No new cases in 15 days only 1 active .....we may be getting on top of this over the ditch

A lot of pressure coming on the government to remove restrictions and stick to social distancing and keeping the border closed

Agee, but what may have been better would have been the Chinese govt locking down Wuhan before the virus spread beyond that city. Probably they will do that next time but there's no guarantee. Australia will always be vulnerable to anything that develops over there as we have so many tourists and students come from there. Without them a lot of jobs will never come back.

5 new cases for Australia and no deaths so CMR drops to 1.405% and active cases drop to 455 (6.3%). One of those cases was in the ACT ending a 33 day run of no new cases.

No new cases or deaths for NZ so CMR is unchanged and active cases remain at 0.1% (1).

The UK had just over 1.3k new cases but only 77 deaths so the CMR is back down to 14.166%.

Just under 23k new cases in the USA yesterday and 706 deaths sees CMR down to 5.637% and active cases down to 56.6% although the number of active cases started to rise again.

Other notable points:

Yes I believe they are looking to take top spot in the world for the number of deaths soon.

Mr Jair Bolsonaro trying to cover it up and perhaps not have so much egg on his face.

Time to admit his mistake and look after the people.....

Long way to go to get to #1. USA way out in front.

USA:
Total cases = 2,007,449
Total deaths = 112,469

BRAZIL:
Total cases = 691,962
Total deaths = 37,312

Sorry I meant the number of deaths pre day, which is potentially more important to the people living in Brazil. I know that is one of the things we focus on here.

Brazilians may well ask their government how is it Brazil has more deaths in a day due to Covid 19 compare to most other countries in the world?

Particularly the USA which has 1/3 greater population than Brazil

With some of the leaders these days I would be expecting the assassination rate to slowly climb as well...both the rhetoric and actions from the US and Brazil beggar belief at times. Brazil more so, that nutters has been calling it nothing more than a cold since the start.

To emphasise the point made above about Brazil, here is their daily new case numbers compared to the USA from March 1st and for the last 14 days.

Those graphs look bad enough but with the difference in population base, here is the latter charts based on cases per 100k of adult population:

It's still getting worse just about everywhere else except the Oceania region but that doesn't mean we shouldn't care - human nature being what it is, of course, we won't pay it any mind until we cop it here again in the next round.

Does Cav bring the girls ?

Maybe we need a clearing thread for conspiracy theories and politics, as soon as someone puts something up it gets moved to the sewer where interested parties can type at each other (changing each other's mind's and solving the world's problems fur shur) and all the other threads can proceed as normal ?
