Default 5.0 Coyote Twin Turbo Mustang runs 9.4@150mph

story taken from Dragzine.com:
In December, we published a short feature on a 2011 Ford Mustang GT owned by renowned tuning guru Jon Lund, who with assistance from fellow tuner Ken Bjonnes, designed and fabricated a custom twin turbocharger system with help from Jake Long, complete with an air-to-water intercooler to pair with the 5.0L Coyote powerplant. This new combination, which is quite rare in a world of superchargers and nitrous oxide, produced a staggering 606 rear wheel horsepower at just 9 pounds of boost.

At the time, Bjonnes indicated that he’d only begun to play with the Variable Cam Timing incorporated into the Coyote engine design, and that inn addition to further tuning enhancements, an entire new long block assembly was on the horizon with the goal of producing in excess of 1,000 horsepower and time slips in the single digits.

Well, Lund and Bjonnes got the new long block assembly from L&M Engines – paired with the twin hairdryers – buttoned up in time for the NMRA Spring Break Shootout down in Bradenton, Fla. this past weekend, and naturally, their personal best with the 2011 GT fell considerably.

Competing in the Super Stang category, Bjonnes clicked off a best of 9.42 at 150 MPH from the twin turbo’ed mount that he explains is nothing more than a typical, daily driver Mustang that hasn’t been built specifically for drag racing. And, with the stock transmission still in use, Bjonnes indicates he was unable to build boost off the line with the footbrake, although producing 21 pounds otherwise.

A mighty impressive for a 3,850lbs (1750kg) car, and with more tinkering time, we’re sure that 9.42 will prove to be only the beginning.

Thats insane, 150mph!!! seems to be doing it so easy. Even the in car footage doesn't seem like a 10sec pass let alone a 9.

1.6-sec 60' makes it look deceivingly slow had a 32mph top end charge, that is pretty good.

I have been following this twin turbo coyote build from the start.
Ken Bjonnes has done an amazing job on this twin turbo project in such a short time. With each step of the way in his development backed up at the drag strip.

where are our twin turbo coyotes builds Australian

that's the yanks for ya, they don't wait i think there were blower and turbo kits within only weeks of the Coyote 5.0 getting released.

the Coyotes are cheaper to build than a modular as well. buy an Aluminator 9.5:1 CR Coyote longblock from the states, get some valve springs and billet gears for the oil pump and she is good for 1000+hp.

just the other day Motiva made 1040rwhp on 20psi with 108-octane fuel with just upgraded valve springs. i know some US dyno's read high, even if it was 850-900rwhp that is ridicilous.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNtPpqeRNrA

the Lund/Bjonnes Coyote is showing around 1050hp @ the engine on 21psi on E85.

Another interesting point to make is with the stock transmission in the mustang (using the popular circle D convertor) seems to handle alot more power than our ZF autos?

we copped alot of crap about our 1UZ from so-called 1UZ experts, we were told what we were doing wouldn't work, it won't make power and it will fail. our engine builder just laughed and shook his head still waiting for what those so called experts told us to come true 2-years, 200+ passes, 30000km's and 1100hp+ later

moral of the story, you want a 1000hp engine talk to someone that has done it successfully many times, you want a 500hp engine talk to someone who has done it successfully many times.

i rang a couple places in Oz for my build, noone had done a 1500hp+ Modular before, so, was time to call the guys in the US. forums can be good but alot of people relay info that is 2nd, 3rd hand old or they don't know every detail.

Copping crap makes it all the more fun when you succeed.

it does, but, i feel bad for the guys that save for years and years to be told you need to do work that is not required or will be overcharged.

herad from a mate that there was over 6 Coyote powered cars at the same meet, that were making around 1000hp

plenty of $'s but do they want to do it? same as with the BOSS 5.4 i'm shocked there isn't as many turbo Falcon's getting around. in the US every 2nd Mustang is turboed now apart from the FPV's and GT500 Mustangs in the US etc i don't think many other car manufacturers are coming out with blown cars.

i believe the only reason Ford is sticking with the blown combo's is because they believe they have to, otherwise they may lose customers. every other car manufacturer is moving to turbo. they have been doing them blown for sooooo long i think people expect them to be blown a blown combo is easier to get right, a turbo on the other hand is a different kettle of fish.

how good is the fact that they will come to your state and tune the car for you? that is an awesome incentive. KenB and Jon Lund are 2 very knowledgeable guys.
