Default Lent my car to someone for the week..

I lent my car to someone last week whilst I was away on a conference and when I got back found that I need to replace at least one tyre and have gutter chunks now on the rims..

Spewing....

Oh yeah they are overseas right now for a holiday...

Anyone else been in this situation?

Cheers,
JKR

Kill 'em.

If that's too harsh, make them pay for the damage. And why are you lending people your Force6?!

Are they just a cr@p driver or did they not respect your car. If it's disrepect make them pay, if they're just a bad driver don't lend them your car again, ever!

my boss lends me his modded xr6t when I ask.

If i ever damaged anything I would pay for repair.
Would expect anyone who ever drove my car to do the same.

If they haven't offered you may have to tread lightly to not destroy a friendship AND end up out of pocket

The only people I would ever let drive my car are my Mum and my brother.

Dad is rough...he tore out the handbrake in the XF, he tears things, breaks things and recently when opening the door of the VTII with his foot, kicked the speaker in.

Dad is accident prone.

Mum is a conservative driver who will become incompetent at some stage (she said it, not me!) but she looks after things.

Dad's also dirty and will probably stain the seats with his breath and such.

A car is too big an investment to let just anybody drive.

This gets me goat up...... I don't lend my car to anybody. hell, I even get jumpy when the missus drives it. I don't even like lending it to family !!!

One night, we dropped the kids off at the mother in laws, and I parked my car in the driveway and took off in my wifes car. Now, my father in law was out at the time and was not expected back for ages, and that is why I left the car there.

I made the mistake of leaving the keys with the mother in law. When we got back, I noticed my car in the same spot, but my father in law's car was in his garage. now, let me explain, he is a shocking driver, always having accidents and they are never his fault. So when I knew that he moved my car, it gave me the big time. But I had to bite my tongue. Next time, I won't leave my keys.... or the car in the driveway.

But I know what you mean.... I hate people driving my car.

Three things that you should never[U] touch.....

1. A man's car
2. A man's BBQ
3. And a man's wife

And yes they are in the correct order.

Im the same. Mine is only an AU fairmont, and Im so damn anul, I just cant let others really drive my car.
In saying that, maybe ask him what happened, if it was just from being careless, and they are sorry for it happening, maybe take it on the chin, I know its a pain, but its not worth loosing a friendship over.
If they arent remorsefull, make them pay for it, or meet them halfway, as youll know they arent a true friend anyhow.
If theyve hit the gutter that hard as well, Id be looking for other issues, bent stub axle, youll probably need a wheel alignment.
Hope that helps.

at the end of the day its a good friend who you share memories and good times with, or its just a car that can be fixed/replaced.

Friends are harder to come by.

That sucks - repair bill for you is going to be around $1500 I guess. Insurance will take care of it but what a pain in the bum. Hope they cough up for the excess.

I'm happy to lend my car to people when the need arises - it's only a car and it's insured. My standard line is "I don't mind if you prang it - just make sure you prang it good".

I lend my ef fairmont to my mother in law on a permanent basis as she baby sits for us unconditionally, and she has pranged it twice in 6 months and broken all sorts of little things like radio knobs and window switches etc.

but she lets me shag her daughter :

dad once told me never land you car or your wife,
they both come back in the same condition,

well and truely .........d

I very rarely let someone else drive my car for this very reason,I dont trust anyone to drive my car and if I do give the keys to a mate for a thrash round the block, im in the passenger seat or driving there car round the block.
Wouldnt even consider lending my car to anyone, unless I was getting a similar car in return.

I've only ever lent one car , to a Friend/school teacher for 3 weeks (we had 4 cars here at the time). They lived in a small village 20 k's out of town and had "Both their cars burnt" by a disgruntled student & they had no transport and 2 small kids .

They put 3 padlocks on the shed while my car was there to make sure it was safe .

when it was returned , it had been "Washed , Polished , Vacuumed and a tank full of fuel ". And guess what , it was an old 1986 XF Wagon ! So I'm happy to say I had a good result .

JKR , mate , I feel for you , if someone can look after an old car like mine , I think your friends should have HEAPS more Respect with a car like yours .

Man... thats crap. The fact that it's a mate doesnt help either.

The only person who drives my car is me. I bought her new with cash and is my first large purchase.

My brother has a 200sx, and wanted to go to the snow with 2 mates, of course the Festiva would have been perfect. I didnt give it to him because he was 18 and I knew what he would have put the car through.

He borrowed the dads XF instead. Came back rooted, and driving like a dog.

5 years on he still brags how he sat on 140 all the way and never got caught....

Chase this guy for the money. It is only fair that he forks out for returning the car to the same condition you gave it to him in....

you lent it to someone > ( it's a luxo performance car. ) . Which tells me, you are very financially secure, and it rates as mach as a mini minor in the way of cars to you, or you simply arent a car enthusiust, or you still havent found out the perrils of human nature .

Its the lack of respect that hurts more than the damage. I don't even like leaving my keys at mechanics and tyre places. A worked 351 is very tempting to many. If I ever borrow a car (like my housemates FPV) then it comes back washed and full. I would tactfully suggest to your friend that they left you out of pocket. A good friend will cough up, if they don't then they're not a true friend.

All hail the edit and Valet mode. Had a tyre joint tell me my car was running crap once. Had to ask them how they figured that out going from the hoist to the car park... Sprung (I have it set at 2000rpm limit and only 2 gears) hehe
