I actually went to Kia last weekend.

He said never heard of a Stinger Wagon.

(Obviously there isn't one but was hoping in plans etc.)

He should be selling Lego to 5yos.

It feels more like a RIO inside than a Sportage, but only one has a detuned 130kw 1.6 turbo that can be reflashed to 150+ as the Cerato intended ;)

All the funky interior lighting options are a **** but the sunroof is compulsory for me !!

Our GT Cerato made 185hp at the front wheels on a dyno at Currumbin here on the Gold Coast and from seat of the pants, it definitely has overboost available when conditions are ideal !

Just gotta eliminate the heat soak thought the intake, i have done this already

Peace out...

Does anyone on here plan on driving or buying a KIA ?

I'm keen to do an unbiased review on our GT but how unbiased can something possibly be when you love it so much ??

Cool Re: 10 Year Warranty for Kia, it Could Happen

So i took the NEW RIO Sport's model for a spin.

It still has the 1.4L but now has the 6spd auto like it always should have kept !

I have included the brochure for your perusal, you cannot get a brochure currently in QLD, if anyone has a problem with the confidentiality i will delete it ?

The only thing i will be adding to this car is a dual tip exhaust as the GT-Line has, otherwise WOW what a car for $21K !!

Rio sport is a great looking car, I can’t wait to see the Stonic in the flesh, looks the same but taller.

We bought a new lancer activ in 2010,it had a 10 year drivetrain warranty from memory, they dont have it now though.
10 years isnt that much of a stretch for a good quality car, ford or holden have never sold cars of good enough quality to get anywhere even close to that

Dad's Triton popped the motor at 7 years old and 95k kms. Lucky he bought it when they offered 10 year warranty.
Took them nearly 6 months to fix

We had a fleet of Tritons at work, an alarming percentage of them had cooling system issues and related head gaskets and even total engine failure. I can't see many of them making it to 15 years old.

Speaking as the owner of a fleet of Commodore wagons, many of which are over 15 years of age & some with over 450,000km on the clock, I find that comment very odd.

My issue now is what do I buy today that will replace the old Commodore wagon (or Falcon wagon for that matter) ?

Camrys are quite durable & very well put together, but they don't have a wagon variant & they get very expensive to repair over the 250,000 km mark as many of the taxi operators have found.

SUVs, love em or hate em.

Kia Sportage entry level ~$30k with 7 year warranty
or Hyundai Tucson ~30k with 5 year warranty
Nissan X-trail's cheaper again but CVT
What other option is there really?

Trouble is, none of them have the cargo capacity or long term reliability of the Commodore or especially leaf spring Falcon wagon. You can almost have a basketball game in the back of these wagons. A few years ago we had to replace a fleet of BFII wagons with Mitsi Challengers. They had a lot less room, were a lot more gutless than the Falcons and reliability wasn't anything to wrote home about either. Step backwards really but there isn't anything else available on the market then or now.

This is the problem. I'm not talking $30K+ for a new vehicle. I always purchased 2nd hand.

My vehicle purchases were always around 5 years old at around 30% of the original new price i.e. $10-15K. Commodores & Falcons @ 5 to 7 years of age were a good, cheap, reliable, easy to service forms of transport which went on to go for many years.

I spent several years in the taxi game in the 70s & early 80s & many Holdens & Fords back then passed the 1 million km mark, if properly serviced. None of today's crop will do that.

A 5 to 7 year old Kia/Hyundai/Nissan/ Mazda is either ready for the crusher or needs huge $$$ spent on major repairs.

I've spent nearly 50 years in the automotive trade as a mechanic, & now in part sales & some of the stories regarding repairs & service on the current bunch of cars available would made your stomach churn.

ABS module failures, CVT dramas, auto trans, serious engine problems due to the wrong oil grade. expensive electronics & DPF problems. I could write a book.

While some manufacturers are better than others, NONE are problem free.

I don't have an issue with that.

All I am saying is that is a myth to suggest that somehow Nissans & Kias etc. will replace an old Holden or Falcon in function & that they will last longer or are "better" quality.

The whole industry has changed, cars are far more complex nowadays & their practical service life is shorter than it once was.

In years gone by only business fleets or government departments bought new cars. They could afford to amortise the costs & massive depreciation that comes with a new car, not to mention tax deductions. The 'average Joe' purchased a 5-7 year old 2nd hand, either from a dealer or auction & then used up the rest of its service 'life'.

Often it was simple enough for the DIY guys to service & repair & wreckers were a good source of parts with the top sellers being so plentiful.

These days the 'practical' service life of the car is shorter & finance is far cheaper so the new car option is more viable for the average punter.
