Default AU Dials

I need some help, so hopefully with everyone owning some sort of AU variant, I'll get the info I need.

My XR is AUII, and thus had a Series II/III XR cluster with blue dials. It differs to AU1 by colour, and by placement of some warning lights. It indicates a 240kph max speed, not 220kph like other models.

I'm essentially after black dials with the same configuration. I found out the hard way about AU1 XR dials after trying a swap with JC. The T-Series dials are white, and it's the wrong constrast I'm after.

Did the Fairlanes, or Fairmont Ghias get black dials with speedos to 240 k's, or were they both 220? Is there any AUII/III variant that has the same dials as an AUII/III XR, but are black instead of blue?

My last resort is getting an AU1 XR dial and a AUII/III black dial from a compatible variant 'chopping' the two into a single dial, with the mask hiding the chop lines.

I don't know if the dials are the same size as the XR ones, but Police Pack (OPT20) speedos go to 240Km/h with 2 km/h graduations and white on black background.

are you able to get the 220km/h dials and have the speedo recalibrated?

I have an AU2 fairmont with the black dials and want to get the blue ones except i have the problem of going from 220 to 240km/h

What ever you do make sure you don't buy cheap off of ebay. Try to get the proper Ford ones or source a quality maker like i think emtech auto does good ones. mine off of ebay bubbled in the heat and was stopping the needles...

DeathXR, your last resort is your only option. The only cars with a 240km/h speedo in AUI/II/III are the XR's, T-Series and Police pack Forte/Futura/SR.

The only AUII/III cluster available in black with a 240km/h speedo was the Police pack Forte/Futura/SR. The AUII/III Police pack XR's had a blue cluster.

Why does it really matter - are you going to be doing over 220Km/h in a 6cyl Falcon?

i dont know about anyone else, but mine wont physically go anywhere past 180km/h anyway due to the limiter. The only reason i would want to change mine is so its calibrated properly, as mine is out by about 6km/h

It's not about whether I can go 220 or 240. It's about not having to recalibrate my speedo just for a set of dials...

Looks like a hack and slash job then.

2002auxr6, they are easy to change. Pop the screw caps on the cluster lens, undo the screws, pull out the cluster, unclip the lens and mask from the cluster (becareful not the break the clips, easy to do), pull off the needles, pull off the dials, reassemble in reverse order.

The speedo is calibrated, within the dash. So whether you swap from 220-240. It will still read the same.

Apart from that, your only choice is getting a custom mask made up.

oi - contact speed_graphics on ebay - he does custom dials for the AU.

BTW - it only took me about 30 secs to find that out. Search fuctions really help - lol. Good Luck. BTW, if you do get a police speedo, you can actually reprogram the speedo calib. +/- to 10% out.

Oh, and the other minor reason for keeping 240kph dials - if I use the AU1 XR dials, I'll keep a Tickford logo...

The speed_graphics are cheap plastic. Within a month the plastic bubbles warping everything and stuffing your needles. There are plenty of members here that have had bad experience with speed_graphics.

mine no fade just bubbled and moved down allowing light to shine through gap at top, plus interfered wit needles

while on the subject my speedo needle was hard to pull off and i think i may have twsted it on the pin taking it off. now when i start the car and turn it off the needle moves down and repeatedly taps at the mask as far as it can go down. when the car starts but it simply winds back up to 0. it sh!zts me coz it makes a wurring noise too. Any quick fix on this.

as far as i know it still reads correctly
