Should find a few sound clips and ideas in this thread. Im pretty sure that video is in there too.

Majority of people go twin 2.5 inch but everybody has different opinions.

You want a set of Pacie Tri Y's, with a metal cat, twin 2.5 inch mandrel bent pipework, with a single lukey ultra flo muffler for each side. Cost? $1500 with the extractors, maybe a bit more?

thanks guys..
i did see this

sounds hot.
specs are pacemaker tri 'y' ph4001 extractors, stock cats, and a lukey 3" mandrel bent single system.
so around $1500-$2000 mark?
the local guy here says i could get a good note from the cats back but as this is my first v8 i dont want him telling me BS just for a sale kinda thing. i am on a budget so wouldnt mind trying from the cats back what are your thoughts?

From the cats back will be fine, but you will get more out of the old windsor with a set of good headers.

mine is only cat back, and is the car in the first video(the one you found on adelaide cruzin fords). the au2-3 headers arnt that bad from stock, mine is hi flow cats, and twin 2.5" catback.

i think my car sounds fairly nice, ive never been picked on for the noise by the cops. it doesnt drone that much, more gives of a nice v8 burble when cruising.

got done at exhaust technology on goodwood rd.

cost around $1300-$1400, hi flow cats put the price up a fair bit. so if you wanted to use your standard cats it should only be around $800.

you could also get a much cheaper exhaust just going a single system, but IMO single exhaust just dont give the desired v8 sound.

You will not find an off the shelf twin system for an AU XR8, someone used to make them but they are NLA.

Your best bet is to find a small exhaust shop that knows what they are on about and get them to custom make a twin 2.5" system for you. Mine ended up costing $780 for a twin system from the cats back with an X pipe, twin 2.5" glass pack straight through mufflers, twin in twin out resonator all mandrel bent.

carline said there is a 2inch twin system from lukey for AU XR8 but im not sure if his give me the correct info plus i dont want a 2inch.

i asked my local guy here about a custom twin system and he would be happy to do it but at the moment cant because his bending machine is out of action or something so my options are limited :(

i have a couple of options im tossing up.
Berkley Single 2.5inch $520 installed (but he said possibly have a droning noise)
Rage Bigbore single 3inch $680 installed (said sounds really nice) anyone heard of them?
Lukey 3 inch $859 installed (im guessing this is the pick of the bunch but im interested in the rage system for that price)
Lukey Twin 2inch $1097 installed. (dont really want.)

You could take the Whoosha approach, stock pipes with good mufflers. His sounds good and is the quickest 5.0l around, quicker on the 1/4 than my 347.

i know the mufflers and rear section of the pipes need replacing anyway.
do you think the lukey system is to expensive for catback single 3 inch?
the local guy here said i should go with the Rage Bigbore for $680
but since you said you had yours made for $780 i just wish there were more shops around.

stock au2-3 xr8's came out with twin 2.25" system.

so if you keep the stock pipes put hi flow mufflers in, take out the resonator and run straigh pipes through. you will still get the desired noise.

on a stock 5.0l it will be quicker with twin 2.25" system, you loose a bit of backpressure with twin 2.5" system.

ok sweet thanks again.

by the way i got my old account back from a while ago hehe i had made a new account because i lost my email address from this account.
so PhatAUXR8 = XR8-2000

im going into town tomorrow to see the local guy at east coast mufflers and jj's who do all carline stuff so will keep ya posted.
as for keeping the stock pipes there is a real thin section in the rear pipes from where it has scraped.
so puts me in a crap position because jj's wont bend AU pipes and the bloke that can has his machine out of order.
