part not avail in aust....

Guys tell me if this is common in the auto industry these days.

my chick has a 2003 Toyota Echo. a common car with the 'legendary' toyota reliability built in....

so lately it has developed a rattle/whine in the engine bay. take it to trusty mechanic and he advises that the harmonic balancer is stuffed. guess what? there isnt one available in AUSTRALIA, according to toyota. 8 week wait to come from japan.

when i dropped my Mbike last year i scratched some bling on it, the part was ordered from japan, via my dealer, and in the country in 10 days.

i would expect a 70's model jag or Yank tank to wait that long for a part.....

8 weeks is rubbish unless they are out of parts in Japan.

Speak to repco or somewhere for an aftermarket one, or just go to a different dealer...

they have huge waiting times on parts from japan atm - they normally come in a lot quicker though...
had a bingle in dads murano and parts were supposed to take 6 weeks but only took about 3...

That is toyota AUSTRALIA, advising that no part is available. 135,000kms.

as i said if it was a FORCE 7 or a Chevrolet Corvair, Chrysler Centura etc, you would expect trouble gettting parts.....

I'm waiting on some Tarago bits at the moment ex Japan, they are really having some major parts issues.
Even Ford is looking good on supply and that's saying something!!

Didn't read the whole thread but same thing happened to our Holden TD Astra. Cannot remember what it was, put a part needed replacing and we called up a handful of Holden dealers and other suppliers and they all said the same thing - we have none in Australia.

They said they can order it in for us, long wait time... no thanks.

Ordered from the UK and came cheaper and quicker than their quoted prices.

But to NOT have parts available for these 'popular' cars was definitely a joke.

The only place I order Toyota parts for my old mans imported JZX90 Mark II is from Castle Hill Toyota in Sydney. They supply ex Japan parts in about 3 weeks.

thanks for the invaluable information guys. she is not in position to ditch the car yet, so it needs to be fixed.

the question remains now, if your harmonic balancer (or anything else) goes....do you have the part available for YOUR car? who would have thought a car as common as an echo, to be stranded?

you also have to remember japan did just go thru a very large natural disaster and it is affecting a lot of industries, I'm an a/c mech and do quite a few installs in new 2 story homes and it is very difficult to get large ducted a/c units from Daiken and some other manufactuers at the moment due to the flooding and alot of factories being damaged

This is true, I've seen a few computer shops struggling to get parts because of stuff thats still not working in japan.

My brother in law has waited 22 weeks for a wiring loom for his 2009 Nissan Navara that was damaged in a accident. His crash was just before the Tsunami and this caused the delay apparently, as non Nissan dealer in the country had a complete loom. Unfortunately the loom was beyond repair, so he had to just wait. He did not have rental car option on his insurance, but does now.

Timelines pretty normal I reckon. This time last year the Boss's ****box a Toyota Avencis; three weeks old had an air-con issue.
Tojo dealer said a new compressor was required under warranty, 8 weeks delivery, we'll ring you when it comes in.
Nine weeks and one day later.....the ship came in.

Earthquakes in major industrial areas will do that to them...

Back when they had the massive Kobe earthquake in 1995, you couldn't get motorcycle tyres of a lot of makes for many months...I bought the last set of tyres (Barracudas I think) in Queensland for the Z1000J I had at the time, and no one really knew when more would be coming.
Toyota also had a lot of problems back then too, as a big production facility was badly damaged.

No great surprise that there would be problems with supply of certain parts.

at work we had a Kangoo (Renault) they lost the keys went to the local dealer had to send Vin No in and they they had to send to France for a new keys had to wait 6 weeks and i think from memory about $400

I've waited since early June for front ABS sensors for SZ Territory. No Projected Release date is the reply I get from all Ford Spares departments.

Staring to wonder if the ABS sensors are made in Japan.

Toyota have stopped holding a lot of parts now.
It seems that they've joined the ranks of our local makers (and yes I'm aware they make them here too...) by not keeping parts for vehicles around the 10 year old mark.
