Default Whats up with LPG prices?

Well how's this for a joke down here in adelaide the pump price of LPG just hit 69.9c/Ltr. I remember a couple of months back it was about 50c/ltr or so, why the sudden jump and why arent people doing anything about it like the people did with the petrol price dramas a while back? This is getting ridiculous as LPG doesnt cost a fraction of what petrol does to refine yet we're experiencing never before seen price rises. If you told me LPG would hit 70c/ltr when i used to fill up my XE 5 years back for 21 c/ltr i would have laughed in your face

Supply and demand perhaps? Government rebates have meant a lot more people are on LPG... To be fair, I'd assume it was a demand issue, more profits wanted over supply.

So the fuel companies are trying to keep LPG at about half the price of petrol ...

It normally spikes up over Summer as there is higher demand for LPG in the Northern Hemsiphre winter. We export kost of our LPG

Its over 80c/Ltr here in North-West NSW... still cheaper than $140/Ltr for RegULP though...

We have an infinite supply of LPG. Only reason for the price increase would be if the demand is so high that theres a supply shortage. In which case, they should expand their LPG making capacity.

Petrol went up and gas followed is all. It's 59c in the outer SE Melbourne suburbs. Fuel prices are never going to drop so just get used to it.

our price is tied to the saudi price , so if it goes up there it does here . and like falcon crazy said it always goes up this time of the year because of the northern winter .

Shouldnt it just cost more over time. Like winter next year should be more expensive than summer this year because the supply is dwindling. In practice the scammers have different price schemes.

I thought it was tied to the Singapore price?

As I said in another thread somewhere, I went away for 5 weeks overseas. LPG was 52.9c/L when I left. When I got back, it was as high as 69.9c/L. That is a 28% increase in price in 5 weeks.

Just wait until the excise starts up in 2011 as well.

Its all a scam, ripping people off at the bowser, as we HAVE to fill up our cars, and goes for every house hold in Australia, hence its a good way to get the money out of us,
Tell you what we should do, which is very hard to do, but the thought behind it is good,
Black Ban Certain Petrol stations per week, eg; No one fill up at shell for a month and go to Caltex, thus Shell will have to lower their price, next week go else where, if everyone where to have the commiitment im sure you'd see a change, BUt as most people go its what ever is convient for them, sometimes i see people fill up on the most expensive days which is sooo stupid, if they were to work it out (like me, i fill my tank up on a certain day so that iget the cheapest day of the week),
anyway just a thought.....

Back in the day of the Gulf war & the petrol rationing, LPG was exempted from restrictions

There was a mad rush to have LPG at the time because it was unclear how long the rationing would last. I can remember seeing charades and other 3cyl/small 4cyl cars with LPG.

LPG was also exempt from fuel tax/levy at the time.
This was quickly rectified by the sitting (Labor) government. Thank you very much Bob (or was it Paul)

I can remember filling up for 4.9c/l during a price war in Adelaide in the early nineties. $5.00 for 100L in my first Bronco.

Thank god those days are in the past :

In regard to current prices, here in A/Springs LPG has traditionally been so expensive that the taxis never used it.

I can get it for 66c (with 8c coupon) ATM - not too bad.

Well its farking dear at the moment. Cant get it for less than 62c. Not happy Jan. As mentioned before it is increases in the Saudi Contract Monthly price caused by idiot Europeans not wanting to use blankets to stay warm this winter.

Though personally i think its bollocks and Australia's need to import gas to the east coast as its cheaper to import it rather than use the massive surplus in WA is bollocks too. And the 2c a lite gas sold to China is LNG not LPG.

I'm in melbourne, but the cold isn't that bad. I just put on a jacket and I'm sweet. I also have my computer in my room that helps. But its not like in europe where the temperatures can get to some low levels where you need the heating on, also they pay through the nose for their heating bill during winter.
