Default AU CD player

Hi Guys
My neighbour has an AU Fairmont with a single CD player in it (standard unit for the model) He is having trouble playing CD's as they sometimes skip tracks and won't play burnt CDs. Because he is an old bugger like me, he would also like to have a tape player.

So, is it possible to fit a later model unit (AU2?) that will also use the steering wheel buttons? What are his options so he can annoy his missus playing Slim Dusty again?
Thanks, Eric

in order to keep the steering wheel function, what we can do is have a double din cassette player in the dash with a cd controller where we can supply a 6cd stacker ubder the front passenger seat facing forward. the kit comes complete with the loom cartridge abd brackets with 3 years warranty, brand new item. $450.00 all inc.

cheers
