Default vct conversion

Hey everyone, just wanna know if putting a vct engine in an au3 falcon without vct is a straight swap over other than the ecu.
Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

Requires some extra wiring as well.

I reckon you'd be better off putting an HP XR6 engine in mate. VCT is harder to mod, there's not a lot of aftermarket upgrades, in the aftermarket boys "too hard basket".... But AFAIK it's just electrical, ECU and engine... Good luck mate!

I have always wondered this myself. I had the idea of just swapping the heads thought, putting vct onto my block. Would it be possible to edit the stock ecu to run the cam timing? I think it would be a pretty cool mod if it wasn't too hard to do.

What extra wiring has to go in? I would guess what ever it is that runs the vct component to go from the front of the motor to the ecu? If i can get a head at a cheap enough price then it would probably work out better than doing an after market cam. I am just dreaming of course, but i still maintain it would be cool!

IF you can get a VCT engine cheap enough and they are about its easy. They will drop in.

Everything will work except for the VCT which will mean it will be like an XR^ with the cam retarded all the time. All the VCT does is advance the cam from 1000-3800rpm. you could build an rpm switch to do this or muck about forever with copying the vct wiring and finding a VCT ECU which is easy enough every fairlane faormnit ghia had one

What sort of gains would be expected out of this conversion? Would it be the same as just putting a vernier gear on the standard cam? I believe that is used to change the cam timing?

Seems like simplest option is to trade in and buy a car with VCT!
