Competition for First Photo FG2

Could Admin/Mods consider giving a Platinum membership to the first FF member who post a clear frontal photo of the FG2 ?? As we are all curious as to what FG2 will look like ?????

Wouldn't be easy, i'm yet to see even a camoed one yet, and I usually see them well before release. They must be hiding them well atm.

Hopefully they will bring one into the plant so we can have a look soon. Don't expect photos though obviously.

spyvidman claims he saw a ute at Lara (at the proving ground) that had a car bra on it last month. The only reason they would cover a car up even there is because of styling differences surely??

The whole point of the forum is to support one another - not for personal gain, but to inform and educate, and to kick some butt too...

I would assume the reason for the lack of test mule spottings on the streets is because Ford are testing them with existing exterior pannels. That's if there is any cosmetic changes, but I have been led to believe there is some styling changes in the FGII.

I saw a an otherwise vanilla FG sedan, with an unusually large car bar traveling along the Western Freeway near Bacchus Marsh about 3 weeks ago.

Traveling in the opposite direction so no pics, unfortunately.

FG2, I have no idea, but seeing this thread, I though I should add this tidbit of info.

Yes they would be at the Proving Grounds, but i'm yet to see one anywhere on the roads around PD. They usually put them in covered trucks and drive them out there to PG so no ones see's them early on.

Supposed to be new front and rear bars.

Add in alot of SZ Territory tech. Rumour has it the tech should surpass that too!

I agree with the OP. A reward of Donating Member status or something will be good.

If it's a new front and rear bar, then they do not need to test that. And all the interior gadgets and whatnot, could easily be tested in the current shape, so I don't think we will see any mules.

From the Territory Titanium - though might give a bit of an insight as to what you can expect from the FG2...

I can tell you - the screen is massive... its like having a 42" plasma on the dashboard...

It would have to be tested at some point to make sure the fittings on the bars and grilles, foglights etc don't fall off or whatever, but they can wait till later on in the process to do that, which is probably why we haven't seen any yet.

As you said all the other stuff can be tested in mules.

Front bar could / would change airflow into the engine and around the car. That needs a decent amount of testing if there are some large changes (which i hope their are despite the FG being a terrific looking car).

Well there was Territory mules running around with Ecoboost engines! So, why not have TDV6 engines in the Falcon!

Hmm. The vaunted economy figures for the TDCi (RWD only) in the Territory would surely be lower in the lighter, more aerodynamic FG. As low as the Ecoboost?

I reckon EcoBoost I4T FG2 will be ~8.0L/100km.
I reckon TDV6 FG2 could be ~7.0L/100km.

Road Warrior, are you wondering if all that $230M allocated was just for EB in the FG and TDV6 in the SZ?!

It would take longer to put a TDV6 in the Falcon than it will to launch the ecoboost version, by a long way.

They can't hot weather test the new front bar at the proving ground though.

Just thinking out loud that perhaps Ecoboost may have been shitcanned (remember the launch has now been delayed to January 2012 to avoid "conflict" with the Christmas holidays and some other release) and the TD V6 will take its place. And the 230 mill could have been just for the TD V6 and LPi in the Falcon.

Although Dearborn was quite clear in that the 230 mill was for Ecoboost, things may have changed in the intervening period. Who knows!

Different bumpers, similar front to new Territory and dropped XT is my guess.

Hopefully they get rid of the Altezza style tail lights altogether as well.

Yeah. EB Mules have already been running around for yonkers now.

Plus it diesel in Falcon is not really the market they're looking to attract with Falcon. That's mid size stuff.

I'm expecting FG II to receive new tech... more sound dampening like Territory, maybe less drag if possible. And more Kinetic design influence.

EB is gonna be better IMHO. Petrol is ever so slightly cheaper, and won't introduce the diseasel clatter to our most treasured marque.

I believe with enough marketing grunt behind it LPI will be the game changer Ford needs right now. Who wouldn't want a new car that runs entirely on a cheap fuel?

They won't drop ecoboost, it gives them a foot in the door to many government fleets with the 4 cylinder or hybrid only policy.

I don't doubt that. I'm just saying its a plausible alternative because when you think about it, the TD V6 will do everything the Ecoboost will do (particularly emissions and fuel consumption) but still provide the customer with confidence that the engine can do what they want it to do.

The reason I thought of the idea was that given the way the Falcon is currently going, Dearborn could have issued a directive that no more top-shelf tech and money is to be spent on a dying platform and whatever upgrades FoA want or need to do to keep it relevant need to be drawn from the current global parts bin. But this is just a theory of mine, it may not have any basis in fact.
