Flat ribbon style wiring for towbar.

I had a towbar fitted yesterday on my FGXR6T and asked for flat ribbon style wiring so that the 7 pin flat plug could stay in the boot. Picked it up and its normal round wiring and plug is attached to the rear diffuser beside the bar. On querying this the fitter said he had heard of probs with flat wiring and it was unobtainable. Apparently there were some cars that had shorting problems which shorted computers. Anyone heard of this?
