Default 60K Major Service

Had the 60K major service done yesterday to our 2006 LS Focus by my regular local mechanic.
Here's what was done:
- Oil + filter
- Platinum spark plugs
- Air filter
- Brake fluid
- Machine brake rotors
- Puncture repair and wheel balance
- Usual top up fluids, lubricate everything, etc.
- Labour

I paid just under $590 for this service. Is this is a good price?

The service hand book states the fuel filter needs to be changed but my mechanic could not find a changeable fuel filter on the car. He called up Ford and they said only LT models have an external changeable fuel filter. So i guess on the LS models it must be in the tank or part of the fuel pump.

i had mine done a few months back but didn't need the brake rotors machined nor a puncture repair. Was $345.80 at Ultra Tune.

fwiw, I got the 75,000km service done at Ford (Denmac Ford, Darra) just in case there were any warranty issues and they charged $220. The prior 'minor' service I got at 45,000km at Ultra Tune was $168. The Ford service mob gave me a good price though as my car was still under lease and subject to fleet discount through SG Fleet. Apparently, the minor service was meant to be $300+ at retail pricing.

Yeh mine was done by Ultratune as well (in Bulleen). Only mechanic i trust which is why we've been taking all our cars there for the last 10 years. I guess the labour rate varies which will change the final price.

Machining brake rotors!!!!!!!!!!!!

I didn't think the rotors where machinable, the tolerances aren't there. The original rotors wear as quick as the pads. If you are a careful driver you will get 60k from them and replace with non genuine for about $300 odd if I remember or more if you are going for slotted. If you ain't careful you might get 30k. I would check if they were original rotors.
There are brake rotor threads on this forum to check out.

When we bought the car i looked at the rotors and pads and they did not look like the originals so they have been replaced in the past by someone.

Brakes were machined/lightly skimmed as they were glazed over and were squealing. Nothing wrong with doing that.

Thought I would just jump on the back of this thread - got my 45k service comnig up in a couple of weeks. Other than oil (filter wont need to be done) what else should I make sure they check/do? Are plugs to be changed at 45 or 60k?
Cheers

Just had my 60,000 (major) service done by Ford and was charged $801.05
This breaks down to Labour: Service $201.60, Brake Fluid Flush $57.60, Throttle Body Service $65.00. Parts: $292.18. Lubricants: $92.87. Misc: $18.98. Tax: $72.82

The reason i go to Ford is for the things the local mechanic doesnt get told, e.g. At this visit i was told of Ford Recall P0705 (Wheel house Liner Modification) for LS Focus and this was completed at no cost under Ford Warranty. Previously there was a brake issue at 42,000kms which i had Ford fix under warranty. It appears these issues are only fixed when you take your Focus back to Ford as there is nothing sent to owners in writing unless its life threatening????????

going to get my 06 focus ls serviced by windsor toyota tomorrow!

i only bought the car 6 months ago with 37000 on the clock
they signed for the 45000 service so now its going in for just a general service.
ive only got 44000 on the clock.
they reckon about 220 or 230 dollars for this

also gotta get the a/c checked out!
stopped working other week!

its a mechanical problem, so if it isnt covered under the 3 year dealership warranty that i have ill no longer go back to them for my services.

i also informed them that if its not covered i want them to contact me before they try any repairs, and to give me a quote to fix it.
and if thats the case ill take it to a car air con joint and get a second opinion
but hopefully it doesnt come to that.

I had a 60K service on my 2003 LX last week at Ultratune and it cost $440.00 set price.

Today had water pump replaced $430.00, this appears to be pretty expensive but will follow up tomorrow.

took my car for service on monday,
apparently needed new front brakes!
and being a toyota dealership, it sent my service bill up 200 bucks!
grr
oh well

they said they'll fix my air con under warranty
turns out the compressor clutch is stuffed
now just waiting on a phone call to say they have the part so they can book me in!

such a pain having to drive out there to do the service!

Have you got a price on a different set of pads? Apparently the stock rotors are very soft. For a few bucks extra you might be able to get dba's or something better?

mines goes in on sat for its 45k service which im waiting for the call.. umm sir, your brakes are screwed....

Got my major service done at Ultratune today as well. Paid $536, it included the sparks, oil + filter, brake fluid, balance and rotate tyres and wheel alignment (left front tyre was wearing out faster than the right; slight steering wheel wobble at freeway speeds).

Overall I was happy with the service, except for when they told me the timing belt was due soon, which isn't actually due until 240,000km.

Yes but the LS/LT/LV Focus with the 2.0L petrol engine have a timing chain that needs to be replaced every 240,000km

I always thought that too, ie. 100,000km, until I checked the manual which says exactly that - 240,000km or every 10 years.

60k service on the ST this weekend.
$483 quoted, plus charge for a brake flush.
Will see what they come back with in regards work needed if anything.
I did pads and rotors 5000 k ago along with tyres, so no need for anything there.

Eeep - Feb is obviously the month for Services.
Mines quoted as $250.... to change the oil and have a look over it.
Going to make them look over everything though to get my money's worth. I have an annoying creak in the back (my loose spare wheel thread) Which I got the missing part, but its either in the tailgate or somewhere.

On a side note, Ive done 45k now, but the owner before has had the 45k service done already. They wont need to do the 'b' service will they?

I do not do many Klms so they do the "cheap" serviceeach year, and simply stamp the next scheduled KLM service on the booklet, so no guarrantee you will escape the big dollar service Watch for the new brake rotars.

$%&# I might start doing home jobs
They know how to charge
$65 for a throttle body service. LOL shameful

I am a mechanic so I guess I miss out on paying the inflated prices.

As for timing belt on the LS onwards its a timing chain so 240k

I changed all my rotors to dba slotted at 45k
I got 98k out of the front brakes but the rears about 50 odd
am at 152k now and the front brakes are at about 70%
I do have a manual and use the gears to assist with braking.

Well got my 45k service done. $180 for oil, check over brakes, lubricate locks and check steering and all fluids. Front rotors have about 8k left on them. Had the service done through subaru and was very happy with their service, and only took just over an hour!

Took ST170 in for 60k service, came out with a 2010 plated Colorado Red XR5.

Do not know how that happened.

hmm i've got my 45k service coming up 2000km ago. I've always taken my car to Wayne Phillis Ford in adelaide.
Now my car is out of warranty and i've ordered in new DBA slotted rotors and EBC greenstuff pads, also going to get some Mobil 1 oil too. Any ideas if the ford dealer will get ****y if i turn up for the service with my own parts mentioned? They have always given great service before.
Or do you guys recommend me going to somewhere like ultratune?

Hahaha what a joke. Better off getting your struts reco'd or getting a set from a wrecked Focus.
