Amazing! Invisible F6 in Canberra...!

Hi fellas,

I've been driving an F6 in Canberra the last week & am convinced that there's something wrong with the car. The only thing I can pin it down to is that F6s become invisible in Canberra! I haven't seen another one yet, so it proves my theory!

I was almost written off twice yesterday. First, a rather absurd P-plate female in a Celica almost chopped my nose off. She'd been weaving in/out of "traffic", attempting to get past a couple of busses. I was in the right hand lane & she decided that she needed to do a right turn from the middle lane, there & then. Close... She was so proud, she went the finger... :nutsycuck I'm 6'2", 92kg...

Even better some 30mins later, a clever fellow in a Focus flashed through a give way T-intersection @ ~70km/hr. His car skipped sideways into the oncoming lane. Had I exercised just a smidgen more right foot in the preceeding few seconds, he would've t-boned my car... He appeared somewhat shaken for a bit but composed himself & took off @ >100km/hr in an 80km/hr zone.

Also, what is it with Canberra & speed limits? Are they completely discretionary? I admit I drive around like a granny - although not the granny in the terri that smoked me at every light change down Northborne Ave & lurched with every brake application. It's safer being in traffic with hoons... Perhaps cruise-control is mandatory here as everyone does 70km/hr in 40km/hr construction zones & is then too lazy to reset & so continue @ 70km/hr in 80km/hr zones or just as likely, floor it...

In Melb these stunts would earn you a session with lead-pipe wielding mo-fos (not that I condone road rage), let alone the law (eventually)...

LOL, what's a mo-fo? Those yellow F6s really stand out, maybe you need a yellow one.
Edit: I just realised what a mo-fo was! I used to work with an American lady, one of her sayings was "where I come from MOTHER is only half a word". She's from Detroit.

Octane. Preselected before I got it. I'll be fobbing this one off & get a more subdued colour. Probably silver/grey, but I kinda like DeJaVu (dark green). Octane is growing on me. Easy to spot in a parking lot. Not on the road, though... ;)

20. It's OK to cut off fully loaded semi-trailers, road trains and buses because, hell - they have brakes.

A middle aged guy with family in a Pajero was doing this to every semi on the way up. He had a penchant for tail-gating each rig up the hill 'til it neared the crest, then overtake it slotting back left ~5m in front of it...

Observation from the trip up. (BTW, I've driven/flown to Canberra countless times). No-one can overtake properly. I have no-probs with people wanting to exceed the speed limit provided they don't try & kill me in their pursuit, thereof...

Tips: Please use the divided road & flash straight past in the overtaking lane, & FFS keep going more than two meters past before veering back to the left in front of me! Also note that I tend to travel @ posted speed limit. There's no point streaking up behind me, tail-gating for a while then overtaking & travelling slower... (This happened a lot on the Olympic (100km/hr) up to Wagga). Worst still, please don't overtake me while going up hill, so that you konk out necessitating that I overtake you only for you to come flashing past again on the downhill...

P.S. The Hume was closed off past Albury due to an accident near Tarcutta, I believe. The detour was the Olympic turn-off.

Its mainly the Pot and the Porn that makes every one there strange.

Heh.
You missed the point, it's not speed I don't like. It's inappropriate speeding. By your logic, how should Ferrari or Porsche drivers behave? 300km/hr down the Eastern, because they can? At least traffic in Melb/Syd is consistent. Here they're loonies... Also, there are sections of the Hume that may support >110km/hr speeds, but it's no autobahn... Don't know of kangas jumping into the middle of the road much in Europe, but saw plenty of recently hit ones & probably a whole mob late in the afternoon near Yass looking to cross the hwy...

Melbournians have been bashed by our lovely state govt into adhering to speed limits, to the extent that people are glued to their speedos instead of watching the road. I wonder when HUDs will be intoduced by local manufacturers in response...

they are mostly a to b drivers there in canberra. they arent interested in driving , so their observation skills are limited to the bonnet emblem & no further. smart move doing the posted speed limit in canberra, there are cameras all over the place at different times. the last time i went there i had an idiot in a bmw overtake me along the lake george area about 6 times. talk about erratic, i never changed the cruise off 115km/hr the whole way.

Canberra is the best city to speed. Take advantage of it ;)

Speaking of classic Canberra drivers...I was coming back from Fyshwick towards Mitchell yesterday afternoon, turned off Majura Rd onto Federal Highway to be greeted with a Landcruiser reversing in the right lane back up the Federal Highway. I was gobsmacked. Maybe he saw the speed camera van 100 metres of so further down the road and thought it was a random breath test or something?

Only reason I got caught off guard was because this SS was riding my tail so I boosted it up and blew him off.

that sounds almost identical to qld drivers!!! we constantly stop/start, run lights, speed, cut others off, dont indicate, change lanes iradically....need i go on?!!! and here we are having a dig at vic drivers for driving in the middle of the road...now we know why!lol

Hmmm, I noticed the opposite. After running around Canberra roads for a few years I went back to Melb to visit family. Lots of road rage and ****ed off people, I just sat back and enjoyed the show. Freaks!!!

Problem with Canberra drivers is we are spoilt with great roads. You should try parking in the city. No one gives a toss about parking regs.

WELCOME TO CANBERRA,luckily for you if you drive at the speed limit you get through the HOLE in around 40mins or so :

i think they drive like they do because they are allowed to have a POT plant to every household meaning they all drive "high"

they do have alot of radars etc i give em that ;)

Oh dear, another Canberra bashing thread. When are you people going to realise that it's the best city in Australia. Rasing your children here is excellent. No polution like the other major cities and crime rate is lower than the other states. No tolls, no traffic Jams and minimal time to the major shopping area's. 3 hours to Sydney and 7 to Melbourne. Why wouldn't you want to live in Canberra. Hoon69 need not apply. Leave the hoons to the other states to control.

I saw Steen the other day. In Tuggeranong. Think it was Thursday heading south from the big round about on Athlon. So your not that invisible.

Agree 100%. I've lived in Melb, Sydney and spent a lot of time on both Perth & Darwin. I am semi-begrudgingly moving to Brisbane so I guess for mine it comes in second along with Perth.

Canberra is by far the easiest, cleanest, safest capital to live in. I always love getting off the plane from any other city and travelling home in Canberra.

Canberra has:
The lowest unemployment,
Highest avg pay,
Most disposable income,
Least hours worked,
Highest avg IQ (though I may be dragging them down on this one)
You can be anywhere in 30 mins regardless of traffic.
Best quality roads,
Best community access to events,
Best Universities (yes, Canberra Uni made the top 20 internationally - the only one in Australia).

All this and weather that goes from -9 in winter to 42 in summer. The only thing Canberra doesn't have is a beach. Could do with a dragway too!

As for driving, Canberrans are not great but atleast they keep left on the whole (which Brisbanites seem to struggle with - see Gateway Motorwway and Bridge).

The amount of people who bash Canberra is incredible. Many haven't even been here and just jump on the bandwagon. Canberra is full of politicians - but they are your politicians, not ours. They come from your electorate to meetings in Canberra, they have no influence here at all. Our own polly's are quite capable of screwing the place without your dreggs helping!

Probably the best thing about Canberra, above all else, is the social life though.

Good thing we don't have a beach, our cars would rust. I pity those poor fools that live on the coast. Rusty cars.
