If you have a friend or relative that is or was a Police officer ask how many of them have bought ex police cars??? That is your answer my friend

Next time you go to your local friendly Police Station ask the Officer at the front counter if they own a ex police car. That answer will dictate your next purchase. CAse closed.

The guy who owned my Xr6 sprint owed the bank 2 million dollars. His two falcons and his house was for sale. I don’t think there was anything wrong with the car but time will tell. So far so good after 18 months

And yes I am a bit arrogant. Sorry about that. It’s not intended towards you or anybody else. I just want people to be aware of issues I have encountered. That have cost me lots of unnecessary money and worries. I want to educate people not belittle them. I want to tell the truth. I hope you take my opinions as help not hurt. Trust me I don’t want to hurt anybody just telling it as it is. Thanks

FPV F6 Ute series 2 build number 100. I tried to buy that from him on the same day but he wasn’t keen on the price I offered him.

There are plenty of examples on this forum of people buying ex HWP cars. And I know someone myself who purchased a VE SS ex highway patrol. It would be around 12-13 years old now but has not been an issue at all for him apart from some typical cosmetic commodore things that come from age and lack of care.

Examples I’ve read of ex highway falcons are that they seem to be an absolute weapon compared to a privately owned falcon, this is often put down to how they were driven.

It’s one thing to share your experience, it’s another trying to rudely ram it down everyone’s throat as if it’s the only opinion we need.

I’ve just remembered also, my parents bought an ex police car. Was a VP commodore, probably general duties. It was reliable for the 8 or so years they had it and replaced a rubbish falcon they had for only 6 months.

Back on topic however. A BMW 530d, 130,000kms. That straight 6 diesel has been around for a long time. Any issues probably ironed out or well known now. If you want one and the price is right, absolutely go for it. You’ll knows it’s history, service history and what to expect. Put a few $$ aside for additional maintenance because of the euro factor and highway patrol factor (brakes, tyres, possible worn seats due to police belt) and they will no doubt provide happy motoring.

Yes as I said before there are good ones out there. I’m just trying to tell my good Ford Forum friends to be careful as they can/could become a money pit. Everything and I mean everything is very expensive on them.

High kilometre Falcons and Commodores can still be relatively cheap to fix and maintain. But there is nothing cheap on these BMW’s. even second hand and aftermarket parts are expensive just be careful. Thanks.

Example on my wife’s X5m. Drivers seat belt$2200. Transfer box $12000. A/c button on rear climate control $300. Self leveling suspension $5500. All covered by warranty thank goodness. My wife’s old X5m E70 shape, 4 x fuel injectors $4000. As you have to replace the whole bank per fuel pump. You can’t just replace one faulty injector. Everything is overly complicated. I

I suggest if you do buy a high kilometre one buy a extended warranty from Carsales or the like usually around $2000. Should help a lot.

Extended warranties are usually not worth the paper they are printed on.

All those items are obviously from a dealer. You research online, buy from overseas, second hand etc will be make those bills significantly cheaper.

Sorry you're quoting dealer prices and for items that you probably didn't pay for that were done under warranty. like the airbag & I assume the injectors as I believe they was a recall on them.
something else doesn't add up what would someone that Buys an X5M & sells it before 90,000kms because they are worried about reliability want with a 2nd hand Falcon?

I don't get it?

Yes they are dealer price’s. covered by warranty. I can see your wife’s X5 is now out of warranty so hopefully you have a good run with it.

I believe I will, its in far better condition than the Territory I have which has less kms and has been garaged all its life.. despite the BMW being outside all its life and have more kilometres. paint interior rattles you name it.

Put it this way I will spend a lot less on it, than the depreciation hit the first owner took.

They Territory will be going next year before its starts costing me with problems. unfortunately I will probably get around 10K for it as a trade.
whereas The second hand BMW will actually hold value better than the Ford from new

And I thought BMW’s were crazy prices.... You see that’s why I’m on this Forum. A Ford Forum. I love Falcons had over 50 of them. They are a great car for the money. Love them.
