Default What does Ford have in store for Sydney motor show?

Reading today's Carsguide liftout it had an article that Ford Australia was taking out a very big display area and a "global reveal" would be taking place. Maybe also a way of stealing some VEII thunder...about time.

edit: Just found the online link:
http://www.carsguide.com.au/site/new...how_in_october

Quote:
SYDNEY could become the Ford show in October. A global reveal is set to go as the blue oval brand spends more than $2 million to claim the high ground for the first running of the Australian International Motor Show. It will also have revamped Falcons and most likely a preview of the next Territory for 2011, set for showrooms in February 2011, as Australia finally drives out of the second-string shows on the Ford program.

"Australia has been elevated to the status of a global motor show. In Ford-speak we now treat it with the same level of attention as Detroit, Paris and Geneva," says Sinead McAlary, spokesperson for Ford Australia. "In the past there were too many motor shows in Australia, but now there is just one it can be treated appropriately. Once we started working on a global reveal the show had to have more importance."

McAlary refuses to discuss Ford's big show surprise - which could be anything from the T6 pickup under development at Broadmeadows to an electric-powered concept car - but admits it will have significance beyond Australia. "You'll have to wait much closer to show day to find out what's happening," she says.

Ford is also spreading its multi-million dollar spending beyond the opening of the show, inviting key executives and hosting a major media event early in the week of the show - which opens on October 15. "Were taking a look at our presence as a whole, not just the vehicles.

There will be senior global representation, but not (CEO) Alan Mulally," McAlary says. "There will be some special stuff. We're also putting a lot of effort into the non-vehicle aspects of the show, things like interactive activities for kids.

"But it still has to be a selling showing for our local dealers. So we'll showcase vehicles that are available to buy, including the 50th anniversary Falcons."

Break-Out:

The AIMS is already a sellout that's short on space. More than 30 carmakers have snapped up all the space at the Darling Harbour exhibition centre in Sydney, which will be hosting the event for the first and last time. It moves to Melbourne in the middle of 2011 and, by the time it returns, organisers plan to move the Sydney site to Homebush by 2012.

"The response to the show has been very positive, firstly from participants but also in leveraging that participation with model reveals, special exhibits and events. Everyone is definitely putting their best foot forward and being very proactive," says Russ Tyrie, event director for the show.

"It's great for the show and it's also great for the Australian car industry. There is a very positive flavour around the show this year. We're got 32 brands and it's a sellout."

HAHAHA....hopefully no one really cares about a very minor cosmetic change to the commy when a S/C GT is sitting across the hall.

Agreed about time Ford trump Holden at a show, they better pull it off. I hope they have a new Mustang there aswell and milk the connection for all its worth.

There is no reason why Ford can't make this motorshow appearance its best in a long time.

Curious about this show-stopper with "international significance" though.

The show will alternate between Sydney and Melbourne, so next year it will be back in Melbourne 2011 and then Sydney in 2012. I'm thinking of going to Sydney this year based on the fact most brands are back again after the previous years where they either chose one show or dropped out all together.

The T6 and the Focus RS are hardly big surprises though - we've known about them for a while. Perhaps actually seeing the T6 might be it, but the 'surprise' bit has me intrigued almost as much as the global significance bit...

T6 is my guess, was touted as being a big deal originally as Ford Aus was developing Fords new Utility that would be sold world wide.

Not to mention the FGII Range obviously.

I bet it will be:
ECOBoost, FPV SC Coyote, New Tezza, RS Focus and maybe the early preview of the global RWD platform. They may also have a Series 2 FG, as it should be almost due by now.

I cant believe I am going to say this but I dont now if they should come out with everything as one product is bound to overshadow another.

Granted a customer who is interested in the S/C GT wont particularly care for a I4T falcon, but better to stagger than go crazy IMO.

Whens the date?

Well there are a number of things that could have significance beyound Australia.
* Global T6 Ranger
* Eco-boost i4T RWD (Falcon)
* Coyote/Miami S/C 5.0L V8
* GRWD announcement / concept

Any or all of the above would be really good. I think that since it isn't Mullaly coming, then it will be Kuzak or Farley. If it's Kuzak, then Falcon is going global as is or GRWD.

Will be nice to have Ford finally take these shows seriously and do their utmost to stifle the launch of the VE2. Just like they stifled the VE SIDI with their Bathurst poor VE 'no way to sugar coat it' economy adverts.

I too would like to see a good "kick in the balls" strategy.

We have paid out FoA's marketing before, this is crunch time!

Marin Burela seemed very confident of a falcon future when he spoke on Wednesday at the Ultimate Ford Experience.. and he was very coy about the V8 later in the day.. and just said announcements will be made when the time is right..

Thats good to hear, but I cant shake the feeling that what he/the company means is the the "name" Falcon has a future rather that RWD Falcon.

I think it will be the T6 reveal at the Motor show. Only globely sigificant project they could announce

Now there's a scoop, you read it here first fellas. Strange that he'd let that slip unless somethings around the corner. Hopefully Ford can sizzle at this motorshow, I can't remember the last time they did in our backyard.

The head says T6 reveal.
The heart says GRWD or major export program for Falcon/Territory.
