Default Warranty Faults Poll

Good afternoon

A recent thread discussion set me to thinking whether we could actually gather some information from the members here around the sort of data that is typically gathered in quality surveys.

For the purpose of this exercise we are going to use the following criteria:

1. The vehicle must have been purchased either new or as a demo by you (or tour employer under a novated lease) during the period 1999 to now.

2. Number of warrantly faults relates to how many actual faults the vehicle had and NOT how many attempts it took to fix them. Faults includes any item that was involved in an official recall.

3. Multiple votes are allowed if you have multiple qualifying purchases.

The reposnes are divided into model series at a broad level so please check that you have selected the right one.

Cheers
Russ

Is this just for Ford, or can it be for other manufacturers?

At this stage we are looking at Falcon based models from AU through to FG.
We will start another for non Falcon based Ford models that may include other manufacturers.

Cheers

Awsome, first one to vote!

Only had one warranty issue (2 if you include the brake hose recall), good old shockwave paint. Took 2 attempts to fix but only 1 issue.

BA MKII XLS ute( bought new);- bonnet release cable, shuddering brakes, faulty rear pass. speaker. Each fixed without issue first go.
BA MKII Fairmont 0 issues or warranty claims.
BF MKII Ghia (2000k demo);- faulty subwoofer(still not fixed gave up after 3rd go and car is now out of warranty),replaced grab handle silver inserts that fell out when you shut the doors, shuddering brakes twice, leaking auto trans twice. My issues have been more dealer related(poor repairs of warranty issues) than Ford at fault.
FG G6E turbo (bought new) faulty ambient temp sensor for climate control.(fixed without issue)

AU2 Fairmont Ghia 12/2000:
Factory oops with XR suspension and wrong spacers causing damage to panels
Computer that runs the instruments died turning everything including the speedo off.
Door locking system went nuts.
Radio/CD died.

BA GTP 7/2003:
T3650 gearbox 3rd gear rattle
BOSS 290 "oil eating monster" ring problem (although this was cured by an "enthusiastic drive" to Darwin rather than the usual rebuild).
ECU went nuts (but it was a very early one and a reflash sorted it)
Diff got all noisy.
Tail shaft/uni/diff (clunk-clunk, clunk-clunk, clunk-clunk)
Satnav froze.
Front had to be repainted as it went all blistery (blueprint)

BA2 F6 4/2005:
Clutch (but they all did)
Extra low power (fixed by reflash)
Diff boiling
Radio/CD died
LH front wheel almost fell off due to suspension component failure
Crack in wheel spoke.
Electrics were constantly strange causing grief for anything plugged into it.

There were probably a few more but I can't remember them at the moment....

Wow flappist!! That's not good!!

I had two BA's with only one fault between them (could not vote twice though). Passenger window rubber warped. Fixed and never had an issue.

I assume the last option is meant to be 6 or more SY terry faults rather than another 'less than 3' faults option?

Why do we have to have bought the car new?
How is buying a car less than 3 years old with factory warranty any different?
A warranty issue is still a warranty issue so it shouldnt make any difference if you bought it new or secondhand.

Because if you didn't buy it new or as a demo then you aren't guaranteed of knowing the full warranty history.

I know i dont have a vehicle that falls into the area you are talking but I do have a couple of questions

What is the idea behind this info you are taking ?

And are you going to take it to Ford aus ?

I am sure that people would like to know the reasoning behind this sort of poll being that it has been started by Admin

All warranty jobs are logged by Ford, so I assume there's no real point to give it to Ford.

Silly thread. Useless information for an over analysed subject. `Dealer didnt fix it again` rubbish. Park it out on the oval on `all ford day` with a list of warranty claims on the special board leaning on the bumper showing everyone walking past how unique your car is. Silly silly silly.

[QUOTE=DanielXR8]Nah nah nah nah I can't hear you, I think is what you mean't?

Actually if every Ford owner put a board next to their car, it might have helped move Ford on a bit to fix things - irrespective if the fault was with the car, the dealer or most likely both.

After all, whatever your luck or lack there of with Ford products, it's a bit sad when it takes a current affair show to get Ford to act on safety.

As a Terri owner I am still angry that Ford didn't think it was worth their time to write to me about a potential safety hazard in my family car, that could cause an accident and put my family in harms way, but could manage to send me a magazine about C grade sports personalities driving their Terri loan cars into improbable photo opportunity moments around Australia.

BA Falcon (owned from new)
- Coolant leak caused by loose connection. This occurred when I was inspecting the car before delivery.
- No paint under doors
- Bonnet Latch broke
- Rear drivers door wouldn't lock (lucky to be fixed under warranty otherwise $400 fix).
- Within a month of ownership front springs constantly creaking
- Rear brakes would stay slightly engaged and rub against the rotor (dealer unable to resolve).
- Transmission whine was terrible, dealer wouldn't resolve as it was within normal operation spec.
- Passenger side front door wouldn't lock

BF2 XR8 (traded in after 15k)
- Driver leather seat stitching come adrift, noticed during inspection
- No paint under doors.

Hi Jason

The results will no doubt be discussed at our next briefing session with FoA but the primary purpose is to gather some anecdotal evidence in understanding how our product ranks against the data gathered by the JD Power surveys as a benchmark.

World class these days means something less than a 3 warranty issues per vehicle average.

Cheers

Didn't your mother ever tell you that if you had nothing positive to contribute then say nothing?

If she didn't; then I'm telling you now.
