mmm .. this hypercar war sure is producing some nice cars... tuatara, fastest evolving dna....sounds very fancy, looks like a bit of a space shuttle, but cant wait to see this thing on the road!

maclaren are also working on something similar to grab back its old production record... its gona get pretty crowded at the top.. bugatti veyron super sport so far is leading the way @ 433 odd km/hr with the limiter off (413 with it on i think) at volkswagens secret test track...

circa 450km/h will soon be hit on a road legal production cars... sure sounds good

No, Mclaren aren't trying to grab back their record. The chief designer who designed the F1 has made it clear that it is not what he Is after. More of a lightweight & powerful nimble Supercar that can lap track on rails.

When he first heard of the project that we now call veyron, he called "a totally useless & pointless exercise & waist of resources to 'just' go for a 400kmh target". The F1 wasn't designed to be just a straight line blaster. Although his position actually did soften after driving a veyron, & was extremely impressed by it's gearbox.

If you're talking about Gordon Murray, he's not even involved in McLaren any more. Left after SLR Merc, but before MP4-12C.

Depending on who you believe, the F1 was a result of Murray wanting to leave McLaren Formula 1 and Ron Dennis not wanting him to go to another team, so basically gave him unlimited resources to create his ultimate project.

He's said of the Veyron that it was compromised from the start, simply because they took a concept and made it reality (ala the current Camaro), whereas with the F1, there was no such concept and it was engineered exactly as it was intended - to be the ultimate, no compromises.

Before I get hammered with "Veyron? Compromised? 400+ km/h is no compromise," they were his words, not mine.

EDIT: Here's the article -

F1? are we one the same page mate.. im not talkign about the mclaren f1 or the mp412c either, mclaren has plans on expanding its range of production cars significantly in the near future.. including discussions of a veyron beating hypercar, if you want proof... care to have a read of this article

According to McLaren’s internal calculations, the Mega Mac should hit 100kph in just 2.8sec, 160kph in 5.5sec and 320kph in just 20.0sec.

Although the car’s 0-60mph time is just slower than the 2.6sec Autocar obtained with the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, the Mega Mac should eclipse the Bugatti’s 0-320mph time of 22sec.
considering the original mclaren f1 of 15 years ago had a top speed of around 387 km/hr with a 6 spd tranny (with word of a +400km/hr capacity should a 7th gear have been added) ... i think 15 years of engineering development (and an extra gear) , a new mclaren would surely have the ability to topple the veyron super sport and push the +400km/hr speed war even further
