Hi I have a 2009 Ford Territory
A few months ago I had a sewer type smell in the car when I put on the windscreen washers. It seems that to access the windscreen washer bottle it is necessary to remove the left hand front wheel and then remove a guard So I syphoned out the liquid and the used the washers to remove the remainder I refilled with rainwater but now the smell is back Any advice would be appreciated Regards Alan |

Have you tried adding a windscreen detergent to the water?

Try a little car wash,in the water bottle, thats what i use in mine, stops the water from, getting stagnant smell and helps keep the windscreen cleaner.

Depending on which old bloke you talk to, there are a wide variety of substances you can add. My preference is windex, as it will not only kill the smell, but help clean the windscreen.

If you use Windex make sure it is one of the ammonia free versions or Windex Auto Glass and Interior designed for cars. Otherwise the ammonia in standard Windex will stain your paintwork (bleach it) . But probably it is better to use the Trico or Bars Bugs products designed for the purpose. Most of these also contain a Calcium hypochlorite or a similar algaecide that will stop the smell problem

^^^^^ what he said. Also, if the washer jets aren't spraying, you might need to remove the washer pump & give it a rinse (gets blocked with algae etc).

x2 for auto windex, I have seen bad results from regular windex on a friend's black car.

Put a mix of fresh water & vinegar in your washer bottle, let sit for about a couple hours then pump it all out through your washer jets then fill up again with a new batch of windscreen washer mix.
The vinegar will deodorise your washer bottle. I use this product & never get any bad smell from it. http://www.barsleaks.com.au/index.ph...gory/bars-bugs |
