Just reading go auto today and it turns out that Nissan is canning the Pulsar name and calling its replacement the 'tiida'.
Otherwise the car just seems like pulsar except it's gone from conservative to ugly styling, similar mechancials except for option of 1.5L & a larger/modern interior. Linkage: http://goauto.carsales.com.au/mellor...2570440002816D I cant see it selling any better that the current Pulsar. Especially when Hyundai are cheaper and are probably better, Ford has a much improved focus and Mazda has a top car. If people want consevative they'll get a Lancer.

Doesn't the name Pulsar sound so much better than Tiida? What a dodgy name for what is a very ugly car. It looks like a Renault but then again, doesn't Nissan own Renault or something like that?

I like Pulsars. They are nice little cars especially the N15 SSS. But that new thing will only do harm i reckon.

What is it with these Japanses manufacturers pulling their own triggers? First Daihstsu commits Harikari by designing (if you can honour it with that term) hideous Charades and Sirions, now Nissan with this stupid Tittie or whatever it is.... when will they get a clue and realise we're not all tasteless muppets? Toyota caters well enough for that without them having to join the ranks.

Ive always liked nissan pulsars. They're quite well built and reliable, and the 2 litre models arent exactly slow (my car has the same engine).
I read that they're changing the name so that they can globalize the brand or somethin. However I do think that Pulsar sounds way better than Tiida (pronounced tee-da) |

Id say the SR20 engine would be up there as one of the most popular. Plus their are plenty of aftermarket parts for the SR20s (well actually most of the Nissan engines). They are 104kw in a car that weighs between 1100-1200kgs. Aint slow at all. You can pull a flat 8secs 0-100km/h with minor mods. Yes it aint quick in the big sense of it all but we are talking NA 4cyl. Im considering a N15 SSS at the moment for next car because I aint having much luck findin a Type R integra. Also considering Liberty RX or an SV6. |

We have a 2002 Liberty Heritage auto, the 2.5 is a nice engine, just better suited to the Impreza rather than the Liberty. The Liberty is far too heavy for that engine to ever be considered enough even without passengers... Dynamically they leave a little to be desired. Whilst they grip well, the handling is a little on the bland side, but not shabby for a car of it's size, it's just not an exciting car to drive, more of a very competent daily driver that'll never really get your heart beating. I don't imagine the manual will suddenly transform anything, not even the acceleration. Only so much you can get out of a 2.5 litre 4 in a big car.
My MkI Focus is clearly a quicker car in a straight line with obvious handling benefits, but to be fair it's a much smaller car and isn't weighed down by the AWD. A MkII Focus is a very well polished car, I'd safely say very similar interior space to a Liberty with a fair hit of performance vs an older model Liberty, it definitely feels much quicker and would outhandle it fairly safely. Build quality remains to be proven but I see little reason why it should be decades behind even if it is only slightly behind, too early to tell but it is definitely well built at first glance whilst not a Subaru levels. One thing the old model Libs has is ATROCIOUS rear headroom, it's disgraceful for anyone over 6 foot in the rear seats, I'm 6'2" and I literally rest the top of my head on the roof, whilst let room aint much better, it just doesn't feel very supportive there at all. A MkII Focus obliterates a Liberty for rear passenger headroom and comfort from experience in both vehicles. It's defintely worth a look anyway, at the end of the day you're going to have to be happy with whatever you buy!! Why not perhaps an Accord Euro that's a couple of years old? They're quick, handle well and very well polished, appointed and should also hold value well.

And now the door will also close the old aussie term..."****y pulsar...."
Perhaps as zetec pointed out it will become the "tity tiida"?

Never liked Pulsars, but I think it's my perception of Pulsar drivers that really the issue. Sorry guys, not sad to see that one go.

Well anyway, off the top of my head Pulsar's arent called Pulsars in Japan anyway - their Primeras, and I think you will find they have or are about to release a new Primera model.

The tiida name sucks for sure (stupid global market name making decisions).
The car's not that attractive either.

Id buy it more as a reliable thing rather than go fast. They are nice cars. I know it wont go fast thats why i wouldnt bother doin it up other than cosmetics and maybe exhaust. Its slower than the SV6 and also costs more insurance wise aswell (Liberty=$1100) (SV6=$960). Im like WTF its a 4cyl and has less power but costs more to insure. How fast does the Focus go? Im lookn for a car that i can do between 7-8secs 0-100km/h. Ive heard figures of 9-10 secs for the Focus. |

zetec im looking at a 2002 Liberty-Ive seen some fine examples around. The thing about it is it seems that my TX5 will smack it which is why im a bit reluctant now. I knew they wouldnt be fast but didnt think they would be slower than the TX5. Also the insurance being nearly $300 dearer than the SV6 is a bit off a con considering the SV6 is nearly faster by 3secs but of course there is the sacrifice of handling and comfort.
I like the new focus but that would have to be faster than the TX5 which im not sure if it is or not to even consider buying one of them. Im not after a monster of a car just something in the vicinity of 7-8secs 0-100km/h as im already pulling 8.5secs. The main reason for being interested in the SSS Pulsar is because its almost a given they will pull 8secs with minor mods plus they are really good looking cars. |

Its a POS. Pulsar: Such history to it, such a rep (N13,14,15, SSS anyone??). When the N16 came out, they canned the 2 litre and the SSS variant and replaced it with a heavier 1.8 litre Q. Yeah It looked good, but where was the SSS??? Now they've killed the Pulsar totally and replaced it with Teeda.... Great Job Nissan!
Now those who know nothing about cars, other than that they want a pulsar (those who are loyal to the nameplate) won't even consider this "Replacement". It looks like a Megane rooted a Prius and and had some bastard child.... yuck. They had a great car, the N15 peaked, and they lost it after that.... Even their new Patrol looks like an Overgrown Daihatsu MOVE, and the pathfinder??? Forget it! It almost looks like a troopcarrier with a modern front!! So Nissan will bank on their sales being larglely from an overpriced sportscar (which I like) and the X trail..... Nissan, Where are you going???? |

Yes it does seem since the N15, Nissan have lost their way. The N16 pulsar isnt bad its just that the N15 is better. Canning the SSS was a bad idea aswell. At least they still got the 350Z=AWESOME!!!
