Dark grey EL XR6 wagon, mint. only wagon I would choose over a ute.
If in doubt get a dual cab or 4wd and split the difference. |

It all comes down to use
If you are going to put tools in and out and you need the flat base then the Ute is the choice, If you may need to carry more than one passanger then the Ute is not for you. They basicaly have the same chassis and springs it depends if you need the security, seating, and weather protection of the wagon or the ability to throw dirty and rough things in the ute. If you look at exactly why you need it then the choice will be made for you.

if its just you & your partner getting around = UTE = 2 seater only
wanna have your friends hang out with you = WAGON = 5 seater depends what you want to do with it. i have a family so i got a wagon for obvious reasons. |

For me, utes arent an option really :p not for comfy driving anyway! Being 6'7, most utes i have been in (admittedly, mainly older ones) dont have the legroom :p

Don't forget that a ute is way more in price than a wagon price wise ,so bang for your buck the wagon is better off |

wow alot more people are sayin go for a ute, i was highly thinkin about a ute for sound reasons as my car already has a sub and rear speakers that i can convert to the front but i was also plannin on prob drivin people around and had the idea of taking the back seat out and makin a couch in the very rear of the wagon : but it all comes at a price so i shall just have to keep thinkin and searchin

i fish and camp and in my younger days it was panel van for me, great for nights out partying and with a bed in the back : : maybe that was the downfall as then the children started to arrive so the van had to go : the next best thing for me was the wagon : so i'm a wagon man now have been for the past 17 years, still sleep in the back in comfort and dry, something thats not as easy in a ute :
cheers chuck |

I myself have a ute, 98 XH. Lovely to drive and all that, unroll swag in back and leave the torno over head, for a dry windfree sleep. But i don't think anything said here should have any justification on what you purchase. It SHOULD come down to what suits your lifestyle and which offers YOU the greatest potential. As stated above, if ya want to carry people go a wagon, if ya need crubby tools go a ute, but ya need to do up 2 lists, pro's and con's of a wagon, and a ute. And see which one comes out to suit you best.

get the best of both worlds and get a panno!
u can cram **** in the back like a ute, just not real big things, and u can sleep alot more comfortably in them. they are empty canvasses for audio set-ups and paint jobs, a panno is the best type of car to put a wild paint job i reckon. and im sure that if all the seats in your car are taken up you can carry them in the back cant you? if they have a secure roll bar or something? either way go a panno and never go back..

Hmm If all the seat belts in the vechile are taken up, So say you have 4 people in the back seat, if 3 peopel are wearing seat belts then it is LEGAL to have the 4th in the car on the back seat. Not in the back though.
Thats WA, not sure about other stats though. |

I've had a ute since day dot.
Unless you need the extra seats, stick to a ute I reckon. One of my mates is encouraging his son to purchase a ute. Then he can't cart all his mates around with him... Less chance of him showing off to them all, and crashing. But I might be a bit biased! :P Cheers Darran

depends on what ur doin work wise, and if ul use it as a weekend car... one thing i love bought my wagon, i dont need it for work that much but still good for keeping tools safe... i chuck my go cart in the back of my wagon then when im done, put the mattress back in it, head to the beach or drive inn cinemas. Can do anything with them. just not bulk tools thats all...
