Heh, they've had mobile operators sited there for literally years.

Also note that there is one on the Story Bridge (not sure which direction) and there is also one supposed to go on the Tarragindi exit of the SE Freeway/M1.

Well I always thought we did. Officially there is a tolerance but they won't say what it is. I've always understood it was 10% of the posted limited. I've been past cameras doing slightly over (say 65 in 60 zone) and not been pinged. Having said that, the minister did say on the news last night that it is now a 1 km/h tolerance which in my opinion is bullshit. But it also makes me not want to drive on those routes because tyre pressure and wear can literally put your speedo out by 1km. I calculated that my current tyres put my speedo under by 2% meaning I'm doing 2% faster than what it says. No doubt they've worn a bit now so its probably more accurate but even so... 1 km/h is not a lot of room for error.

as your tyres wear, your speedo will read faster than the actual road speed so it will not cause you to be fined unless your speedo is indicating you are speeding. that's your responsibility as a driver to keep an eye on.

This is technically true but I'm not exactly gonna go around measuring the exact OD of my tyres to the millimeter am I? Aside from the fact that a difference in tyre pressure can also affect your speedo accuracy. There's a reason the ADRs call for a tolerance level and there's a reason why most reasonable people would understand the need for it.

Its patently ridiculous to suggest that I need to constantly ensure my tyres have the right OD and dead on the right pressure every single day of the week.

Of course if the government wishes to pay for us to all buy highly accurate and very expensive speed measuring equipment then by all means. And they can also pay to have it calibrated every month...

The meaning of her words arent to say there is no tolerance for speedo error. Her words meant if you speed, expect no leniency. What she did was, refuse to tell you the amount of tolerance to prevent people from trying to utilise it in your daily driving. Smart. How often do we hear people here saying things like, I sit on 110 in 100 zone,or 120 in 110 zones as I have 10% tolerance?

Theres a difference. You dont believe it, here it is IN CONTEXT.
Quote:
The Government has refused to say whether it will allow any tolerance above the 60km/h speed limit. Other states are believed to apply a tolerance of about 10 per cent.

"There is a tolerance level but we don't talk about the tolerance level," Police Minister Judy Spence said.

"Any Queenslander who is going more than 1km/h over the speed limit, they are likely to be fined.

When you consider the testing phase revealed cars doing 120km/h (60 zone) across Story Bridge at 4pm, theres little wonder these will be everywhere soon enough. The stats suggest 600 cars an hour speed across Story Bridge. But lets not let the facts get in the way of a good old granny ranting witch hunt.

Some of you could host Today Tonight.

it is illegal these days for car manufacturers to have a speedo reading slower than road speed. ADR's give them a tolerance of around 10% under the limit but 0% over. therefore it will only be out if you have altered the car from how it left the factory. this then becomes your problem.

the speedo on newer cars is no longer driven from the gearbox either apparently so wheel diameter no longer affects it.

i realise not everybody is driving around in new cars but i stand by what i said earlier. the onus is on the owner/driver of the car to make sure it is roadworthy/legal. ignorance will not hold up in court.

1kph is a bit steep but fmc351 raises a valid point. if she said they would allow a 10% tolerance, the majority of drivers would drive at 66 instead of 60, 110 instead of 100 etc etc.

i remember going past a mobile camera on the gold coast hwy, i believe it was. when i was up there, did not see the camera until i passed it (sign beside the car) and was doing 10kph over as I was told that speed is ok. didn't receive any fines

well, if 1kph tolerance is now qld, gives vic a bit of relief lol...

Maybe I should be selling speed camera plates? They work a treat but my wife cracked and ...... they are illegal so I wouldn't promote them. Speed camera's have been in NSW for years, talk to any Victorian & they will tell you they were there before evolution, that is where they tested & perfected them!! (way before NSW). Us individuals in QLD are only coping what the others have put up with for ages.

Yep, Judy Spence was on the news the other night saying 1 kph over and you can expect a fine. Makes me angry just thinking about it shows how out of touch the Queensland Government is becoming.

Was she specifically speaking of the speedo error adjustment tolerance, or was she talking in general terms of zero tolerance on speeding?

Theres a difference.

She also said she could not garintee their accuracy, so if everyone who receives a ticket disputes it, whay will the end result be.

i wonder what you can do to stop them from being able to read your number plate (without taking them off) when the camera flashes you?

Ive heard tilting the plate downwards works but if it was me id fork out for a radar detector but make sure you research them for the best one to suit.

I've been told that some (might be all, not sure) speed cameras will repeatedly take pictures of all cars that go past, regardless if you're over the speed limit or not, and that the flash won't always go off.

How true that is I'm not sure on...

well i found it it probebly wasnt me.. apparently they take the picture when your driving over the lines so if you take them to court they can prove how fast you were going eg: 6 lines x many mm apart, takes x amount of a second to cross 6 lines your car crossed them in x amount of time therefore your speed was x

and i was well pass the lines when the flash went off

Wrong.

Speaking to a cop on another forum, he said that ONLY cars speeding are snapped and the flash ALWAYS goes off, day or night, rain, hail or shine.

If you dont see a flash, you have nothing to worry about.

1 km over! There must have been another deficit in the budget that has to be addressed. Never mind about positive initiatives to lower the record Qld road toll.
What a collection of filthy hypercritical mongrels the Qld Government are.

So we have fixed speed cameras now?
I've got a radar detector, hopefully some updated software comes out for it soon.

Just update your GPS every month or so. All the same, iff everybody that got a fine desputed it, I'm sure this issue would go away quick enough. I'm not one for speeding, but 1km over is a joke.
