Default I just didn't want to be a news story!!

Hi guys, Hope this is in the right area.
I'll start with a pic of my car before the accident

Looks good!
The story- My girlfriend and I were driving home from my Dads place through Mordialloc in Victoria. We came to some traffic lights with a Territory to my right and a BA Falcon XT behind me full of 3 Male and 1 female Maori's. After the lights was a two lane to one lane merge.
I took of a bit slow from the lights, but still in front of the Territory, The falcon was trying to get in between me and the Terry before it turned to one lane. Because i took off slow it was making it hard for the Falcon. He they eventually done it and then Tail gated about a metre off my . So then I tapped my brakes to get them to back off.
They then Overtook over double lines, the passenger then threw a full bottle of coke at my window. They got in front of us and then Slammed on their brakes and i nearly hit the back of them as I screeched to a stop.
Then all of the doors opened up. The passenger (a buff Maori i think who seemed like he was on Roids) Threw a Fanta bottle at the windscreen which burst. Then ran up and started Punching My Girlfriends window as hard as he could.
Meanwhile I had tried to grab reverse and got fifth(Im used to the 6spd's out at the Ford Proving Grounds). I rolled into their cars then got Reverse and stomped on the Throttle.Massive axle tramp and then bang. We hit the Terry behind us. My girlfriend and I were yelling our heads off to just go away and leave us alone.
A guy behind the Terry said to the Maori at my door (Who was massive) the he has called the cops for assault and they are just around the corner. The maoris then yelled at him so then he buggered off(Don't blame him!). The Maoris then got some details and drove off.

Never been so scared in my life.I thank the person that called the cops, don't know what they would have done if he didn't.Terry came off OK.A kid in the front seat was having an asthma attack, but he's ok now.
The Maori's called 000 as soon as they left and told police i was driving Eratically. Nothing is going to be done to the Maori's, maybe a $400 fine for littering and crossing double lines. We are all OK now except for my Baby XR6 which will mostlikely be a write-off.

I wouldn't wish this on anyone except the people that do this. We are now just hoping that Kama is true and that all of my insurance works out.

Any comments welcome.

PS- On the up side I may be getting a new car soon. :

No way.

I had an EB wagon that was written off due to the chasis.
Just look how stuffed his rear quarters are. Doubt it'll ever see the road again.

So are those mauri's going to cover the cost of your car?

I didn't notice the damage to the quarter panels. Looked like boot/bumper and scuff down left hand side. I guess it is "off to that great parking lot in the sky". Always said to see one go :(

Crikey you had them where you wanted them, should have just stepped out of your Car & Beat the crap out of them

I am Sooo Kidding, however they would have made nice Targets on ya front Bumper.

Glad to hear you are Both ok & would not have been a nice thing to go through.

By the way I most likely would have done the same things as you did at the start of it all, not sure how I would have Finished it (Maybe with a Few Flattened Maori's under my Car lol).

This day and age it just doesn't pay to pith anyone off, there are so many nutters out there.
Imagine if it had been a stolen car, they would have just rammed you off the road.

I used to flash my brake lights at tail gaters but now I just turn my mirror down so they see that I'm not watching them so they can get as close as they want.

Shame about the car mate.

Sorry to hear it but as soon as I read you tapped the brakes I thought 'here we go'. You don't need to provoke cretins like this anymore by doing things like that. Plus it gives them ammunition, they can turn around and say you brake tested them etc.. Your better off just doing the speed limit (or slower) and letting them flyby and forgetting about it. Not worth the hassle.

That makes absolutly no difference, you by law are required to leave enough distance in front of you to give you time to brake in an emergency without running up the back of the car in front, thats why it is illegal to tailgate.

are you for real you can apply your brakes at any time and it is upto the person behind to stop. his actions were in no way unlawful.

So you're telling me if a cop witnessed you 'brake testing' someone there'd be no dramas? What if someone died because you 'lawfully applied your breaks' (aka 'brake tested' them) would you not get in any trouble? Hitting the brakes isnt necessarily unlawful, but surely commonsense comes into play at some point.

commonsence isnt a law, the cop couldn't charge the guy with anything

and as he said he just tapped the brakes so his brake lights came on, not a full blodded stomp on the picks.

I can't believe the timing of this post. It appears that S.A police are anxious to speak to (what has been described by at best by a legally blind passenger) a couple of Maoris for the bashing and subsequent death of a young man during a road rage incident in the southern suburbs (Darlington) area here in Adelaide last Thursday.

Unfortunately for the occupants the Maoris took to repeatedly kicking the 28 year old driver in the head after a possible incident happened like being cut off or something similar. The Father, who is legally blind, had to witness this outrageous attack without being in a position to help. All he could recall is that the attackers appeared to be large men with strong Kiwi/Maori accents.

SAM RODRIGUES, POLICE REPORTER
Quote:
TIMOTHY Chadwick's legally blind father listened helplessly as his son was so badly beaten in a road rage attack he lost his life.

Five nights after he was bashed unconscious, the Woodcroft man, 28, died in Flinders Medical Centre.
His death yesterday was declared a major crime.

Detectives, who are hunting his two attackers, branded them cowards.

About 9.30pm last Thursday, Mr Chadwick and his father were driving home from the Seacliff Hotel in a silver 1990 Ford Fairlane sedan with green and yellow personalised number plates.

At the intersection of Seacombe Rd and Davenport St, Mr Chadwick is believed to have unintentionally cut off an oncoming car.

Detective Inspector Doug Barr, of the Major Crime Investigation Branch, said that for such "a minor incident to be blown up into something of this nature is just disgraceful . . . it seems to be all too prevalent these days".

The attackers' vehicle, described as small and dark-coloured, had followed the Chadwicks on Seacombe Rd into Braeside Ave, Darlington.

Both cars turned left on to Glen St, into Grace Rd and stopped in Aaron Ave, where the victim got out of his car.

Inspector Barr said Mr Chadwick was brutally bashed, including being kicked into unconsciousness and left at the side of the road.

"To kick a man into unconsciousness while he's lying on the side of the road does not take a great deal of courage," he said. "It's a very, very cowardly act, I'd say."

Mr Chadwick rushed to his son's aid after the attack, comforting him before paramedics arrived.

"The descriptions of these people are vague, given Mr Chadwick's sight impairment, but he does describe them as having a distinctive New Zealand Maori accent," Inspector Barr said.

Initial reports also suggested the two men had heavy builds.

Sturt police are reviewing security footage from premises around the area and tips from residents. A Command Centre will be set up tonight near Aaron Ave in Seacombe High School, between 8 and 10.

Police will canvass the area for witnesses, including anyone who saw the cars driving on Seacombe Rd.

Anyone with any information should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Police will be door knocking in the area tonight seeeking other possible witnesses.

As the story reports, the life support was switched off yesterday. Rip.

You my friend can consider your self and your gilfriend very lucky people.

On a more constructive note, have you considered civil action against your aggressors? Did you fill in a police report, can't believe the Police they can't do anything because you or your girlfriend didn't get hurt, I would say it is still assault, but i am no lawyer.

You have witnesses and it seems to be you should be able to sue them for the cost of the car damages and stress. I suggest you talk to a 'no win, no fee' lawyer about possible legal action. This might cause a bit of drama for you, but it may make them think again before they do it to someone else with weaker windows. Might even help with your house deposit.

This is such a terrifying story, I hope you and your girlfriend are okay now.
Cars can be replaced.

Sorry to hear mate. Some groups like this think they are a law unto themselves.

What I usually do when I get a tail gater is not brake check them, but I just take my foot off the accelerator. They have to brake for you then, and if they hit you they have no excuse as the evidence is right there.

I do hope its all fixable, but theres no guarantees. Otherwise, your insurance payout my be the next best option.

If you have the original wheels, could you fit them back on the car and at least salvage the 18's and sell em off to regain some cost?

In situations like that, if someones trying their absoloute hardest to get in front of you, tailgating etc, its best to just let them past (especially a car full of Maoris). No backing off the accelerator, no tapping the brakes, just let them past. It doesnt matter whos right or wrong, its not worth the BS. Good to hear no one got hurt, and the car is replacable.
