PREMIUM burgers made with Australian Angus beef were added to the menu at 785 McDonald's restaurants across the country today.
In a big boost for Australia's most dominant registered breed, the meat patties used in the Grand Angus and Mighty Angus burgers are made from 100 per cent Australian Angus beef verified by the Certified Australian Angus Brand. CAAB chief executive Phil Morley said the new burgers would broaden the horizon for producers of Angus cattle of all types. "We are delighted with the opportunity this will present Angus growers with throughout Australia,'' Mr Morely said. He said increased demand from a big chain would boost demand for Angus beef overall. "Previously, Angus has gone into McDonald's products, but now buyers purchasing for the new products will be looking for specifically for Angus cattle.'' Served on a sourdough bun and with gourmet trimmings for $6.45 and $6.75 respectively, the burgers represent a premium option for cost-conscious diners. The Grand Angus, served with salad and cheese, weighs in at 264 grams, including 33.2 grams of total fat. The Mighty Angus, topped with bacon and relish, tips the scales at 260 grams including 35.7 grams of fat. The burgers will be accompanied by in-store promotions and supported by a national television campaign due to air this Sunday. "McDonald's has been supporting Australian farmers for over 30 years and we currently use around 25 million kilograms of Australian beef each year," Stephen Shillington, McDonald's VP/regional manager – Southern Region, said. "We are proud to be continuing this tradition with the introduction of this very tasty new Angus Beef range that we're sure our customers will love."
