Default 2012 Porsche Boxster Undisguised

Quote:
Our crafty spy photographer have managed to set lenses upon a completely undisguised 2012 Porsche Boxster S out and about in the light of day. With all of the vehicle's camouflage removed, we can clearly see the body lines of the new convertible. Though the familiar Porsche face hasn't gone anywhere, the side of the vehicle now wears a dramatic side strake and sizable air inlet positioned just forward of a set of equally bold wheel arches. Those openings are filled with massive, multi-spoke rollers. Toward the rear of the vehicle, we can clearly see a new integrated lip spoiler that spans across the entirety of the car's rump, bisecting the taillamps.

That's exciting and all, but our spies also indicate that this model may boast a next-generation 2.5-liter flat four-cylinder. If those whispers are to be believed, the 2012 Boxster could pack as much as 360 horsepower courtesy of a little forced induction. Word is the vehicle will receive a proper introduction on the show circuit in the next few months.

I like it, looks tougher..

Unfortuantely people will always say "you got the boxster because you couldn't afford the 911?"

Then again I'd just be happy to afford a Boxster

It is an integrated lip spoiler.

My guess is its probably not chrome but just a clear lens to house the indicator LED's.

Good to see some more aggressive lines on what was otherwise known as a girls car. Still couldn't justify spending that kind of money for an entry level model

First thing that stuck me is the similarities with the MR2

er.. you mean the other way around...

Have only gone for a ride in a 1972 Porsche 911(rebuilt as a wide body) which just astounded me how much grip it had going around very sharp corners at high speed!
Incredible performance from a 30yr old car.

I'd still have one, no worries! I think it looks excellent, with significant detail differences over the last range which has been a commonly levelled criticism of the 911/Boxster/Cayman.

Poor man's Porsche, Rich man's VW, whatever........next thing some bright spark is going to pipe up and say they prefer the look of an AU1 Forte.......

just wondering....after all you said it is a girls car and couldn't justify the $$ for a 'base model.' Thought you might have been able to back up your comments with some experience.

Find a bigger picture for an example next time?
(on a serious note, may be worth resizing it or finding another one)

God some people can be DH's sometimes, "poor mans Porsche"...FFS.

Have you seen the prices for second hand Boxters? They are not that expensive. Probably the same people who have never driven a convertible before, or dismiss the 924/944/928's aswell.

It looks very nice!

Nioce, looks a good update. I hope the alleged new power level is not compromised by additional fat.

Seriously, a boxster is designed for a totally different market than a "fast taxi", neither could fulfill the others role.

Lol @ the people with the "Poor mans Porsche", hey, its got a Porsche badge on it and maybe they didn't want to justify the lot of extra $$$ for the top end models for something they can't use anyway?

I don't think many Ford Forumers can cast doubt and point the finger on people with top end luxury/sports marques cars regardless of what they are when like 90% of the forums drives second hand E/AU/B series Falcons.

I also doubt many Porsche owners want a car to tow 2200KG, carry a family of 5 easily, or FPV's offerings which cater to the go fast in a straight line group.

I won't call a Boxster a poor man's 911 until I can afford a new 911. I do remember this quote coming from Top Gear. I'm sure Jeremy is in a position to make those kind of statements. I doubt most of us here can say the same.

What has that got to do with it... do you judge someones wealth by what car they drive?

No but judging a car enthusiasts wealth by the car they drive is a pretty good indicator and except for a small number of notable exceptions most AFF members are car enthusiasts.

A lot of real enthusiasts will prefer a 993 over a 997
Same deal with a T3 and FG GT
R32 GTR and the latest thing
1960s/70s/80s S Class Mercedes and the latest plastic.
etc

In this day an age of instant finance (at jacked up interest rates) your theory gets thrown out the window. I bet ya the majority of forum members don't own their late model cars outright, but at least they are entitled to an opinion of the latest Porsche

Well they must be wealthy enough to afford the payments.

In some cases members are judged by what they write on the forum rather than what car they drive.

Time to talk about the car, not the type of person who buys them.
