Hi guys,
For those that don’t know, back in 2010 I started a project of an EL XR8 Twin Turbo. Since building it I have sold the car just shy of about 8 mths ago now to a gent in Melbourne. And the story goes like this, Got a Face book message off a mate advising me that my old EL is back on the market (Friday night). I done a search and found it on eBay for auction. The photos were horrendous! The car was in appalling condition with the driver’s seat more brown then gray. Boot full of leafs and footwells with mud and all other crap. Not having the original buyers number I sent him a message though eBay letting him know who I was and is everything alright with the car? This was on Friday night. Saturday he sends me a text message saying he basically lives in a small country town in Victoria and the cops around there know him pretty well. As a result, he couldnt leave his street without getting (according to him) harassed by cops. So for this reason wants to part with it and buy a more subtle car. After reading this to me that is a fairly good reason to want to sell it and dont see no harm in it. Shortly after him sending me the above text, he then sends me another letting me know to log on to Youtube as I can view it doing a burnout up to forth gear (my poor T5...). After viewing this footage in heartache I didn’t reply back to his text in sheer oar of what is being done to my pride and joy! Having the ability to put one and one together, with cops "harassing" him, and him doing a line locker on a residential street in forth gear with oncoming traffic, I can imagine the rep he must have with the LAC. Sunday morning - The mate who alerted me to the advert sent me another message early in the morning saying he must of sold it because the advert is gone. After looking for it myself it says its ended so I thought it ended there. Couple of hours later in the morning the owner was calling me up, roughly a hand full of missed calls I eventually got in contact with him, he asked me if "the turbos are still under Warranty?" At this stage a million things are going through my mind thinking what the hell has happened. He went into further detail and explained how he took the car out last night (Saturday night) and was in the middle or racing a VL Turbo and all of a sudden the car starting bellowing white/blue smoke. He explained he believes it’s the turbo seals. I told him it is unlikely as these turbos combined are good for a solid 900HP and on a good night the car was running 520HP, further more the Turbos are a little over a year old and can’t see this happening when they’re running at half potential. I explained that my guess is the Motor is blown with low to no compression left. He then still wanted to speak with my Mechanic to see if anything can be covered. I feel sorry for Sprio having to deal with this part. I am in oar here guys. A little under 10 years ago I saw this car modded and it was my dream to have modded EL XR8. I was blessed to have this dream come true, but not after a ridiculous amount of cash spent on getting there, to have it all within a matter of months crapped on by someone who got lucky buying it. It hurts so much to see my dream literally destroyed within a matter of months. I just don’t know what to say. Sorry for the rant but if anyone will understand my pain of having my pride and joy shat on it will be you lot.

as much as it sucks to see, you got your money, thats the end of it all really.
does always suck to see such meatheads get their hands on mint cars, but really its an all too-common story. my first car (and first love lol) lasted four hours after it left my driveway. the first i knoew of it was when the cops came knocking on the door asking why my car was abandoned, wedged sideways on a single lane bridge. |

Your right and thats what I keep telling myself. Its not my right to keep carrying on. But I guess the fact that he wants to go through my mechanic to claim something also disappoints me as I know the quality of the build and further more Ive made a great relationship with my mechanic and would hate to she him having to defend his build aswel.

It could be built by the best tuner and be the most expensive build in the world but **** still can and does break like any stock car. Doesn't help that it appears that the bloke has mistreated the car.

Looks like he buggered it by mistreating the beast. I would end the story by not answering any more calls, as I can imagine the hurt it causes by seeing something you once cherished ruined.

There is no claim to be made on the vehicle.
Its not Autotechs problem. I dont like seeing my old cars trashed by the new owners but once you ahve the money its their property to do what they like. The original owner of the XR8 might of got all upset and high and mighty when you molested an original XR by twin turboing it. This will just turn into a public sh!tfight now where Autotech has to keep their name good whilst on trial by an internet kangaroo court. |

No warranty on private sold cars - period
And YouTube shows the way he drives it so definitely would void any claim. Sad to see but not your problem Wonder how he got the reg transferred in vic with twin turbo's?

It is nice to know there are still people out there who care about the purchaser after they have sold their vehicle. Unfortunatly there are more out there who will try and take advantage of said person and anyone else for that matter.
Honesty these days is a rare commodity. Good on you for trying to do the right thing. |

Thats what you get for putting so much effort and money into a car only to just up and sell it.
The thread title had me thinking it had been crashed and written off. |

like mentioned, you sold the car? You cant expect the new owner love it like he built it because he didnt, but he did pay for the right to do whatever he wants with it......
and your for sale thread says you sold it 3 months ago? |

I hope you didn't pass on the Mechanic's number as it has nothing to do with him.

I didnt give him my mechanics name though all the invoices from the Build so obviously its all there. Also the parts are out warranty regardless anyway so thats not an issue.
Im did get my money and I knew noone would love it like I did. Im not trying to prove a point but seriously. Its is a crap go. Micky, I sold it a while ago man. 6+ mths ago though.

man this is a real pity, feel bad for you but at the end of the day you sold the car and he paid for it, all you gotta do now is get a few guys together and teach him a lesson in how to treat a modified car!!!!

Tis a shame, But I would certainly not get bent up about it, tell him to go find his own mechanic for repair works and not to bother your mechanic though, It may cost you a good solid relationship!...

it does sound pretty awesome, sad that its "dead" now. whilst i understand the logic in everyone saying "u sold the car, the new owner can do whatever they please with it", i do understand the hurt in seeing something you love/d being treated like that. i sold an ef ghia i spent a bit of coin doing up over a period of time to make way for a newer ba turbo. biggest regret of my life. wish i had kept the fairmont. whilst i dont think its been mistreated in any way, i feel like i let the car down in some way by moving it on to get a "newer younger model". back on topic, if the current owner had been the one to spend all the coin on the car and/or do the hard work himself, i doubt it would have ended like this. having just rolled up and purchased it with everything done, its unlikely he could have respected it for what it was. |

To answer a couple of questions. Got married about 6 mths ago now. Wife has her own project car and looking into buying a house soon so needed to make a few hard decisions. Selling my XR8 was one of them.

IF you sell it you cant dictate how they use it? Also if they sell it you dont get first right to buy.
I sold a car once that was high powered and the meathead who bought it had it impounded for burnouts within a month. The wife rang me screaming at me at how its illegal to have those mods that were on it. I told her to scream at her husband for driving it like a meathead. I never had it impounded or even had a fine in it. |
