Me too....very sad.

Edit: Ford have changed their minds previously though....Maybe, just maybe if the dollar drops away and circumstances change? One can only hope.

Some of the media have been saying this will happen since the XD. Josh Dowling should be happy.

Most likely...gone are the days of Australia being able to have models that we like in the massive sparsely populated wind swept land, and instead we have to comply with emissions laws from tightly packed European cities...

It would make more sense to follow European and American emissions laws if a huge number of our cars were exported to those countries...but they're not, so why should we meet their emissions requirements...?

You can't blame the public for not buying "big local cars"...the Commodore and Falcon are the "flagship" models, but in this economic climate people want cheaper to run cars. I just got the rego for our four cylinder Triton...just over $700 here in Queensland...but that's a huge saving over our previous car, the six cylinder G6E. People do think about this sort of thing when making a purchase.

The Aus dollar is falling too hope that may help the component manufacturers to keep going otherwise this is big big trouble.

Very sad news. Not sure what it will do for Ford and Falcon sales in particular in the lead up to the closure.

All those people saying that Ford was to continue in Australia. Then didn't buy a NEW Falcon or Territory. Then wonder why this happens & whinge they are closing....

Not good news at all the flow on effect to their supplyers will be massive. Also worse news for Geelong with the future of shell up in the air. A very sad day for Australian manufacturing.

I saw the Mayor of Greater Geelong on TV after the Shell announcement saying words to the effect that Geelong had moved on from a reliance on Shell, Ford etc.

...
The Mayor said that despite the announcement, the Geelong region had a great future.
He said the council was currently involved in a range of job creation initiatives across the region, with an emphasis on innovation and the knowledge economy.
“Diversification is one of our watchwords, and I see the region’s future employment opportunities as being linked closely with the small and medium-sized business sector,” Cr Fagg said.

I'd love to take the mayor at his word, but the regional towns were built around manufacturing or primary industry. Geelong is screwed, he just isn't saying it.

A very sad day for this nation of ours, the domino effect this decision will have will be disastrous.

RIP Falcon.

Yeap, as a Ford enthusiast and someone who lost their father to Dementia last year after years of illness, you called that exactly how it is
