Hey guys,
In the other thread, some people expressed some interest in going for a cruise to see off the birthplace of our Falcons. Personally, I would love the idea for as many of us to go out on the day that it's done, when the curtain is drawn, we should be there. I would gladly drive my FG from Gladstone QLD all the way down to Broadmeadows to send off our history. Whilst it may seem impractical to do so for many people, I would like to see how much interest there is in such a journey.

Count me in. Maybe FoA will have a bbq, and if alot of us show up then they'll think ' gee thats alot of passionate fans we've abandoned- maybe we should keep V8 Supercars' with a Mondeo or whatever the equivalent will be.

I've already got a couple of our workshop boys keen for it. Talk to your friends and see if any of your friends who aren't apart of the forums interested.

We hope for it to change but we have to look at it realistically. I doubt Ford will back down from this decision.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's a group setup on FB or Twitter or on a site somewhere for this. As you say, it will be a massive event.
Might have to book accommodation early.

I think someone should contact Ford and Put it on them to do a send off properly. I was at Broadmeadows in 2000 for the 75th anniversary and we did the cruise from brisbane to Melbourne. There was blokes from Cairns in XT Falcons and we drove around You Yangs banked test track. Its a shame they couldn't make 100 years but it will be 91 years in 2016.

"Cue the 1975 hit song Convoy playing gently in the background". A map of Australia displays a series of arrows moving from the furtherest reaches of Australia (and potentially overseas), east from Perth across the Nulllabor, south and then maybe southeast from Darwin to join the South Australians or east from Tennant Creek to Mt Isa to join up with the FNQers to run through Central Queensland. All arrows / vehicles headed to Broad Meadows in Victoria where we meet for one last hurrah.
Would Victoria and other states / towns have sufficent fuel for potentially 10,000 extra cars to influx the area all in one hit. Towns along the way could set up show-grounds as one off camping grounds. Hotels / Motels could potentially make a years profit over a month period. Makers of all things Ford merchandise would make a killing. The logistics would be enormous and would need to planned so as not to appear as an unruly mob of hoons hitting a town like a scene from "Mad Max". Potentially done with Police escort for the say the last 100kms into the B/M factory. Just a quiet thought from an Ol' Man Cheers Vincenzo

Maybe the moderators (cos they would probably have ears in Ford) could put the idea forward towards Ford and see if it pans out?

You'd need to get ford onboard, you'd get so many cars there.
maybe they'll be more open to the use of their car parks as a one off thing like this.

Be cool if it was a 3 or 4 day event. Big Aussie made car shown shine, ford drivers from over the years, a parade, maybe a tour of the 2 plants before its closed for good, and a big send off to the workers the day they walk out the doors one last time. So many things could be done if planned out. 3 and a bit years is a long time to plan it. Anyway, those are just my thoughts

Sounds like an awesome idea,
I was also thinking for those that can't go all the way down to Victoria maybe we could organise a sychronised cruise in every city where Ford has had a plant. So would be Geelong, Broadmeadows, Homebush, Fremantle, Brisbane, Adelaide (not sure if I've missed any?) Eg here in Brisbane we could organise a sychronised cruise so at 2pm we cruise to/past Eagle Farm site at 2pm all cities start cruise. |

I'm keen as, along with a few of the boys up here in Townsville, with have to pay a visit to the engine plant in geelong. after all what is a falcon without it's heart. I will definately be goin for a drive down Great Ocean Road too, have always wanted to since I saw the BA falcon's camouflaged in development.

That track is kind of like a Dover or Bristol down under. That would be cool to do a bit of NASCAR work, most likely never be allowed there though.

I'd be in for sure.
As others have said....it's a long way off.....but who knows, by that time we may also be joined by new mustang owners on the way down to broady! The 75th anniversary cruise in April 2000 was massive.....this has the potential to be monumental...... Albeit for all the wrong reasons. |
