http://www.raa.com.au/documents/used...y-ratings-2015
Are you driving a used car that is safe? Have a look at the link which lists used cars in categories and rates them on safety I'm glad to see the falcon FG and ford territory as the most safe vehicles to drive and also a little disappointed in the b series not rating as high. Also the VE was a little disappointing. It seems the older cars really do get poor ratings, some older fords get one or two stars. But overall fords seem to fair pretty well with the fiesta considered safest of the smaller cars, territory in SUV and falcon in large cars. It opens up your mind doesn't it. |

As usual, Hulky introduces his thread in a slightly doe eyed, yet cheery manner, the first few early responders attempt to give it legs before the detractors arrive. Then 1TUFF must stick up for Hulk somewhere before it all goes down hill. I tip my hat to you gentlemen.

I wouldn't put my family in a car with less than 5 stars safety. I'd feel too guilty.

Yes...yes I am.
Because...and I don't know if this is because I'm a motorcyclist or because I accept reality or both...I know that there are risks every time you step out the door, much less go out driving/riding on the road. You can attempt to minimise risk, but there's no use being silly about it and being afraid of old cars. I have a sister-in-law who is a nurse, and she refuses to buy any car without at least six airbags and a host of electronic trickery in it. I once drove her to a nearby shop in my Celica and she was honestly, white-knuckled afraid when the traffic got a bit heavy. I actually think she thought she was about to die at any moment for no reason but that we were in an old car. What sort of life is that to lead, being afraid all the time??? |

I drive a ba xl ute with no safety features and only one airbag and it gets four stars? It's also got ****house brakes, and the skinny tyres get bugger all grip. I feel it's a dangerous car to drive especially in the wet.

common to hear on the radio about serious/fatal car accedents from people avoiding animals on the road including colisions with other cars or pedestrians.
my last roo impact with a car[AU] was a large grey landed on the bonnet and took out the head light and power steer pump. Often have bird strikes with the workshop hino, including one came through the front windscreen. Often get into situations with the truck including 2 off road excussions last thing you need is a bag deployment. Last week I happily found the steering wheel air bag is actually a dummy. given the high numbers of counterfeit parts around.

If you hit a kangaroo at 110km/h would the airbags go off? If so That would be dangerous. Better to be in an old xc falcon tank with no airbags which simply knocks the kangaroo up over the car and keeps going without a scratch.

Sure in years past there was no choice but to drive a 4 star car etc but in this day and age with so many used cars that achieve 5 stars, there really isnt any excuse why you would subject your family to a less safe vehicle.
For instance a fg falcon can be bought used for well under $10,000.. its a 5 star safety car. Knowing that how can you risk the lives of your family and others by putting them in a less safe vehicle, some people even driving about in 2 star cars. Last edited by HULK_I6T; 03-09-2015 at 07:16 AM. |
