Angry QLD Car Rego Going Up Twice rate of Infaltion.

"Queensland, already the most expensive place in Australia to own a car, will raise vehicle registration fees again on July 1, with the State Opposition accusing the Government of treating motorists as cash cows.
The fees will rise at more than twice the rate of inflation, and come on top of a 3.5 per cent rise in Queensland driver's licence fees due to take effect on July 1, according to the RACQ.
This is another example of a Government with no plan, no initiatives and making it up as they go.
Registration of a four-cylinder car is set to rise by about $12, a six-cylinder car will go up by about $17, while an eight-cylinder car will rise by $23.
It will take registration for four-cylinder cars from $328.90 to $340.40, six-cylinder cars from $492.30 to $509.50 and seven or eight-cylinder cars from $669.80 to $693.25, excluding insurance costs.
Earlier this week before the rise was announced, the RACQ told the ABC Queensland was already the most expensive state in Australia in which to own a car.
No excuse for rego hike: RACQ
The RACQ's Paul Turner said it was an unacceptable impost on drivers.
"A couple of hundred dollars a year more than the average of the other states, so there's no excuse for this," he said.
Opposition transport spokesman Scott Emerson said the LNP government froze car registration costs after they had risen by 30 per cent under the former Labor government.
"We made a very clear promise that we'd freeze family car registration in our first three years in office after those massive hikes that we saw under Labor," he said.
"Labor has now made a decision to slug motorists and increase rego by more than twice the inflation rate.
"We understood the pressures put on motorists and worked hard to be fair to them.
"At the same time as the LNP froze family car registration, it also saw record spending on the Bruce Highway and work beginning for the Toowoomba second range crossing among dozens of other significant road projects across Queensland.
"This is another example of a Government with no plan, no initiatives and making it up as they go."
Money needed to maintain roads: Trad
But Deputy Premier Jackie Trad said the increase was vital for maintaining infrastructure.
"We spend money that we collect through registration on maintaining and building the roads that Queenslanders need," she said.
"No political party went to the last election promising a freeze on registration costs and registration prices in Queensland.
"What we do ensure is that registration fees are pegged to the GIP (Government indexation policy) so they are in step with wage and prices increases, and not beyond that.
"What there was, was a commitment on behalf of Labor to ensure that any increase in registration was pegged to inflation and indexation and we've kept that commitment." http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-05-2...m-july/6491924

Only $490 for a 6cylinder car. Bargain. Up in VIC we are up to $800.

The $490 doesn't include CTP.

Trad is lying through her teeth -

The government does not spend rego money on maintaining roads.
She needs to listen to the people in the know (HODs) about that.

It is not about listening to people, the govts know full well the state of affairs regarding roads, reg etc. It is about spinning lines of BS in a 24 hour news cycle environment. The punters swallow it up in spades. Both parties do it.

The original article is saying registration fees before insurance.
So the licence/ registration fee for a 6cyl in WA would be $375.15, than add insurance, GST, duty and recording fee bringing it to a total of $808.10
Looks like QLD is an expensive place for car registration.

Qld is broke, over its head in debt which is rising daily.

Years of government mismanagement, bloated and incompetent public service, fiasco project after fiasco project with multi billion dollar blowout, the real cost of Comm games is slowly making its way felt through increased government charges. We’re just seeing the beginning.

Trad, well I have it on very good authority that she has approached her former high school on numerous times wanting to present to the current kids a dose of “look at how wonderful I am”. The school totally refuses her requests.

Mind you the other states aren’t much better and at lease we keep winning the State of Origin!

Is that pothole on the highway or a local government road? Not trying to defend the Govco, but, there is a different set of responsibilities.

I believe that NSW & the ACT are much more expensive that QLD for rego.

It depends on whether you are private or business & country or city, but in Sydney, you are in business & have the audacity to drive a V8 ute or One-Tonner over 10 years old, it gets close to $1500 incl. CTP.

If you are a private owner, live in the bush & drive a 4-cyl car less than 10 years old it's under a grand.

Where they skin you now, is with CTP they charge more if you have any demerit points on your licence. Say you get a minor speeding fine & say one point on your licence, what happens is the CTP rises by $200 or so. The demerit points last 3+ years, so you get penalised $600+ on top of your original fine. Not very fair uh!

Full 12 months rego and TAC third party, Falcon P van, Ford Trader $570 each, bogie drive K100 rigid $980.
Added bonus of no Melbourne or Sydney in sight.

So NSW is going down that track, of cars over 10years old, boy the Germans have a system that the older a car gets you can not afford to drive it on the road or to sell it as the value drops hugely. but it has stoped the acid rain.
Sydney is really bad for pollution, that I can't stand to even go near the place and Melbourne stinks but not as bad.
But people who live there don't notice it.

In Brisbane we have a lot of crap cars blowing smoke or bad blowby smell that should be f ed off the road, I believe cars over 10yo should get tested every year, only due to there ignorance.

You get concessions for living in rural areas in NSW? I wish I did.

I guess higher registration costs in the city could in theory lead to less congestion, but for those out in the sticks, there are no PT options.

ahahaha, today our dear leader Andrew Barr announced the ACT Budget. It's standard practice that everything here just goes up by >5 per cent a year, every year. My rates bill will be $3,000 (up 7 per cent - and I'm just in a fairly standard middle ring suburb, and that excludes water and sewer), car rego up 5 per cent, land tax, parking etc etc.

"QLD Car Rego Going Up Twice rate of Inflation".
It all started when Beattie the buffoon was Premier, announcing that V8's made more pollution so should be penalised with higher cost registration. His impeccable mismanagement of everything he is involved in still carries forth today, as evidenced by the recent Commonwealth Games ... God help the NRL.

Who would have thought that Victoria - infested as it is with hidden speed camera's, would be the cheapest state for registration.

I pay $686 for my VF V8, and $561 for my XH panel van. They're registered in rural vic though, would be more expensive if it were Melbourne.

Even ignoring the spelling, the thread title makes no sense..
Inflation is the increase, so it can't be twice as much as itself.

Perhaps they are referring to a specific index? In which case it would be helpful to know which one, and what relevance it has?
Commonly, when people say "inflation" they are referring to movements in the Consumer Price Index. However it's not valid to use it in this way.
There's basically say "oh my registration increased more than the price of salted peanuts." So what?

The fundamental problem in this country is that we expect the state government to do almost everything, yet they have very few ways to actually raise revenue.
So they're stuck with increasing stupid charges like registration, land tax, stamp duty, payroll tax, etc.

And of course, being politicians, they are incapable of simple honesty. Instead of just saying "we need money, so you need to pay," they keep on coming up with new lies about how such and such an increase will be used for roads. Fact is it all goes into a big bloody bucket and they use it for whatever they need.

And ultimately its a truism that we get the government (and taxes) we deserve. You know all those freebies the politicians have promised you in exchange for your vote? Free Education, healthcare, roads, money for this, funds for that, save the gay Koalas? Well NONE of it is free.

Personally, I'd like to see taxes on dickheads and idiots, but then that would catch a lot of pollies.

my 1085kg vitara was going to cost me $1190 to register last year in NSW
rego was only $260 but CTP was $880 because it was classed as a ute although it was really a convertible passenger car
so i bought a 1850kg 6cyl falcon and its under $900 per year
tards!

Melbourne not far away. We're paying ~750 each for two hatchbacks.
At least you guys don't have the added Melbourne tax for everything else i.e. Health Insurance, car insurance, etc.

Since McGowan got in in WA our rego has gone up twice in a short period of time and way above the inflation rate. The wife's Ford Fiesta I bought her (4 cylinder) is now $600 a year to register.

Got my renewal in the mail yesterday.

CTP: $367
Registration: $508.85
Traffic Improvement Fee: $56.05

$931.90 for a 6 cylinder.

And NFI what the traffic improvement fee is.
The only traffic I get caught in these days are those pesky grey nomads. ;)

I moved out of the city and my comprehensive insurance went up too, but it was only an extra $12 or something for the year. No idea why. Far more likely to have an accident living in the city.
