Default Utes collide and spin in air on Kwinana Freeway

I know this bit of road well, Kwinana Fwy coming south after the bridge and a couple of speed limit changes and a bottleneck too - so ute in front may have slowed with traffic as happens all the time, and one behind not seen it. Hope the drivers are OK. Anyway, here's the footage:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_OQ-bdfRX0

Now, watch the closest ute - is that the esky that gets flipped in the air and then re-caught on the ute tray?

Looks like a PIT maneuvre to me.
I reckon these guys knew each other and were playing silly buggers, because no one has made a complaint to Police.

You can see the shadow of the utes on the concrete barrier but unfortunately there was a long shadow right before impact but looks like no real braking, maybe rolling out of the throttle at best. Probably would have been a minor rear ender 9 times out of 10 really.

But yes it does look like a classic catch

Well that answers that. I wondered what all those marks on the road were from.

Thats what I thought, wasn't it some motorcyclist that fell off all by himself that crusaded for the changes to the law and then the hike on our regos.

yer thats what i thought as they then needed alot of paid care and the parents couldnt afford it and the campain to change it all so all partys could claim , and the ones aposed as the wroghters would do things like this and then have mucle damage and never be able to eork ever again

Looks like the guy behind had cruise control on and then fell asleep or was distracted, seems to gently creep into the rear of the other Ute, no brake lights

Probably still doing 100 even though around the CBD and over the interchange/bridge it drops from 100 to 80. There's a fixed speed camera in that area so everyone in front probably slowing down to make sure they're doing 80 (if not already).
That driver was probably still doing 100 or more (like most of the freeway usually is and most of the traffic does even in places where it's 80 - except for that spot right there that has a camera)

E: just realised the sign says mill point rd (in sth perth); the fixed camera is a little further up past that turn off around the bend in como. But that area was regularly used for mobile cameras, so usually you make sure you're doing 80 there.

The Esky was full of beer and we all know that the number one rule is to never spill a drop of beer when you have a stack.
That is next level control.

A consequence of having 1cm separation between yourself and the vehicle in front.

As a regular freeway driver it amazes at the tail gating and of course if you leave a 5cm gap between yourself and the vehicle in front someone pushes in.

Moron drivers - ef’ them!

I was thinking how awesome would this story be if after flying through the air, the esky had a stubby or tinnie in it, and it survived to be able to crack it. We need closure!

Showed some more footage on the news tonight leading up to the roll over.
The guy at the back was being a dick, swerving and accelerating up behind the first ute.
It was inevitable something was gong to happen.
Nothing yet about any Police involvement, I'm guessing that's still to come.

Something Ive always wondered about tray back utes is why they don't require a rear Bumper by law. I call them can openers
you can see how they tangle and somehow attach, perhaps a tow ball getting under the guard, which is what caused the rollover.

would have been a simple nose to tail, if they had the standard Ute trays.

Some utes, namely ones that came with a tub then had that swapped for an aftermarket flat tray, some fitters do retain the rear bumper. But that still doesnt stop the rear of them over riding the bonnet of the rear ending car. Plus within adrs, to a degree you can fit a longer ally tray. Ive known enough blokes who's tow balls are under their aftermarket trays as opposed to sticking out like that of a tub.

I also thing the rear Triton hit and kept driving, pushing the front Triton causing him to swerve right. lack of brake lights half proves that
