You asking if cars with 40 years of refinement are better than 1960's Mustangs? No shit they are.

The XR8 does weigh in at 1795kg - about 200kg more than a Mustang

Late model Falcon will eat a classic Mustang....
But a Mustang will alway be loved by nearly everbody and you can improve perfomance. |

Otherwise see if you can borrow a XW or XY, GTHO even. If you do try braking into a corner and then attempt to round the corner and exit cleanly under power. Try the same thing in a BA. You might notice a slight difference........ Now repeat this a few times and you will find your drum brakes in the Mustang/XW are on holiday. |

I was joking mate.. Sorry bout that :
I have driven the mustang and it is really fun to drive but is far from practicle.. They have the turning circle of a bus, the clutch is as heavy as hell, and the toploader is very very clunky and a bugger to use.. Plenty of $$ have been poored into the suspension and brakes but still doesnt handle nearly as well as a modern cars.. And as for the drum brakes, they are pathetic lol. When the diff is converted to 9" we are upgrading to disc's.

Dads 1966 stang has more torque then a new GT but has a 40 year old 289. When the 347 is dropped in it will have around 500+rwhp and far far more torque.. So when they are worked yeah they can beat newer cars. But if they are both worked, it will be much closer.
Stock vs Stock, newer should win though..
