TX3 Laser or TX5 Ghia ;) Both good cars. I had a TX5 and I loved it to bits!

Depends on what your budget is. How much are you looking at spending?

Six cylinder ute on LPG might be the go. Cheap to run, trade friendly and good practice driving/parking etc. a largeish vehicle.
Good luck |

The suzuki 'mightyboy' is a good option. Very fast: 19kw with a tip speed of 120kph.
If not, you could get a nissan 300ZX or a older model WRX for around 12K. |

A 300ZX or a WRX will cost a shitload on insurance. I'm 20 and pay $3k+. Even 3rd party is a lot to ask. I can tell you both are incredibly expensive to maintain too.

Mate personally, and I should have listened to my parents, get a laser thats in really good nik and is stock. Until you get your head around owning and maintaining a car this is the best option. Your young, so you need booze money, and you want to go out all the time, last thing you want is to be paying heaps on repairs or fuel. LPG falcon could be a goer to, but get an EL, or EF. As new as you can get, and dont be afraid of k's if its been kept well. just dont do what I did, buy a hotted up falcon then I forked out 1000's just to fix it, let alone keep it running. Sounds boring I know, but thats what I would do if I had my time again. Although if you do a trade thats going to be easier on you than if you go to uni.

Sorry I didn't read the entire thread. In that case you should get a camry. They aren't fast or fancy but they are relaible, economic and relatively cheap - perfect for a p plater on a tight budget. |

Definitely go the 92/93/94 XG Ute if you can find one. You will inevitably dent your first car, may as well be the work hack.

That was I was thinking if you look hard enough you may be able to get a good XG Ute for your budget if you decided to do a trade (may already be on dual fuel) or you could put on on gas 2k rebate (if petrol was an issue in getting a 6cyl)

For around $5k I would look for a EL if you can get one in a manual. Don't go for mods, look for one that is honest, high km's are not a worry so long as it has had its services.

Perhaps those small ute thinggo's??? hmmm what they called??? A "Jumbuck" or sumthing like that???
released 3 or 4 years ago with the front end of a small car and a 1.5 litre engine. If you want newish and cheap to run get one of these however real pulling power and more metal can be had buying an older model as mentioned previously. |

Don't get a car your going to hate in 2 or 3 years. Unless you buy something that won't last much longer. Ultimately if your into cars your going to want to do something with it, even if its just basic mods. So whateva you get make sure it has at least some potential.

Cannot go wrong with an XG ute on gas. Cheap, easy to fix, reliable, workhorse, safe, etc etc

yeh i would love to mod my car but with the whole power restrictions, ill just have to wait before i can think about getting my xa v8 falcon. thats why i said ill just get something small like a laser. but i was thinking a ute for my trade. i love the idea of utes because they look real blokey, i can carry things in the back, sleep in it on a hot night after going out, i only have 2 seats so people cant keep hounding me for lifts, with it running on gas ill save heaps of money and my dad will re-spray it for me so ill have a clean looking car. yep i think ive made my mind up. im going to try looking for a ute. thanks everyone for the help so far. any sugestions on what model ute i could get?

around the 9k mark on ave i found utes for some reason dont depreciate in value as quickyl as sedans, hence why i bought a sedan same performance for less $$. and my mates dont ask for a lift cos i tell em to get ****** and drive off most of the time. or i have a backseat fulla shit
