Default VE HSV on Top Gear this Week...

Mmmmm Interesting...................

Looks like Aussie "know-how" gets a guensey on Top Gear this weekend.

Vauxhall VXR8 = HSV E Series R8 ?

As posted in this thread on LS1.

http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=71082

Now if only Ford can do something like HSV are doing in the UK with Orion......

I wouldn't think so.

I voted for an F6 at Mt Panorama (on SBS Top Gear Comp) as their Aussie Test Car / Track.

I've always got the impression FoA would like to export to places like the UK and US but MoFoCo .. I mean FoMoCo won't allow it. We know the yanks loved the XR6t they had there to play with and would probably soil themselves over an F6.
Still, it's good to see an Aussie car of some sort getting air time.

Thats why we should all email Top Gear asking them to review an FPV, or better, come to aus and do a special, like the American ep a few weeks ago.

I really dont think theres a market at all for the Commodore/Falcon over in the UK...petrol is to expensive for one thing...they will be expensive compared to European equivalents...and that VE is badged as a Vauxhall!!! lol...not exactly a high class manufacturer...only for the rich who want something that stands out IMO...

The European equivalents to the Vauxhall VXR8 are the following...

Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG
Audi S6
BMW M5
Jaguar S-Type R

And they all cost ALOT more then the Vauxhall will.

The same story with the old Monaro VXR, which competed with the following...

Mercedes-Benz CLK55 AMG
BMW M6
Jaguar XKR

All far more expensive. The Vauxhall was only something like 30,000 pounds, the rest like 50k.

this just goes to prove that Holdens 2billion dollar baby is just a vauxhall re-badged. Holden only just recently said they were rebadging it to pontiac for states export (i see it as having about as much impact as the monaro did when they sent that over, about 2/3rds of the cars were still sitting in yards a couple of years after it was released there!), to my knowladge nothing was said about europe.

So cos they are exporting it to Britain its just a Vauxhall rebadged?
The work was done in Aus not in Europe.

Hopefully the G8 will do well in America, they didnt put that ugly front fascia like they did on the GTO thank heavens.

The GTO was well recieved in the US, (despite some of the crap we were fed in the papers here) the target market for this type of car is small by US standards but there are no cars sitting around in storage yards! I spoke with a Pontiac dealer when I was there last year and he confirmed that the market there for that type of car was proving very tough as the 05 - 06 Mustang was doing exceptionally well compared with the previous model. The sticker price for the last of the GTO's (6.0lt) was $39,990 the problem with that is you could have a simular spec Mustang over there for a touch over $30,000, or for another $15,000 over the GTO price you could get your *** into a M3. As for the frontal treatment, sure it may not have been to our taste but it blended perfectly with the rest of the Pontiac range.

We all know the boys on Top Gear loved the 285kw GTO and it still sets the pace for performance for the money over there, and I would think the boys would love the F6 just as much, its unique, its aussie and it goes very hard for a showroom car. If HSV can get a car over there at a competitive price than WTF is wrong with Ford?
