What's the highest KM FG Falcon you have seen so far ?
We came home in an '09 or '10 XT taxi with 360,000 on the clock and it seemed very smooth and quiet....

HULK BA, you obviously know nothing about taxis.
The paint job, camera/meter/computer wiring fitout etc can be worth thousands plus its already on gas plus it'd have the balance of rego which is thousands upon thousands of dollars a year, not just $600

Aren't Vic taxi Rego plates and a license something like $500,000 which the operator then pays off over several years much like a mortgage ?

SSVPom, I would believe that every taxi in Australia requires a Taxi Licence Plate. These range from $200k to $550k, depending on the city. Licence Plates can either be purchased or leased. In brisbane at the moment I believe that they are worth about $430k and can be leased for about $2200 a month.

An AU2 (late 2001 model) ex-taxi was still worth 10k in 2005, so there is plenty of value.
3 years service life left and it's already painted and fitted out.

So the FG will be 4 years old in May, is that right ? It seems they are pretty reliable apart from the usual electrical gremlins that befit the higher spec cars .

Cant help yet, my FG is my personal car for now, will be a taxi soon enough. There are only a couple of FG taxis on the road here. Different states have different rules about taxis and licenses but basically the "license fee" is paid to the state government for permission to operate in a certain area, the amount of the fee will depend on the potential earnings of the area. It may be a permanent one off fee or a yearly payment type. Also I can own the license and sub lease it to a 3rd party to operate usually on a yearly or monthly basis. The car, maintenence, insurance, meter/computer, and affiliation with a booking company are all extra expenses for the operator. |
