The SS had to win. Its a great carand for $45,000 you cant go wrong. I hate to say it but if Holden had the VE SS in 2004 when i got my XR6T, I think i'd be driving a red car at the moment.

I love my 2003 GTP, but for $45K, the SS is awesome value and speed when compared to my $72K GTP.
Ford have definitely got to get their act together. This is embarrassing right now. |

Ford has nothing in its range to combat the SS

Wouldnt it be easier/quicker/cheaper for Ford to upgrade the xr6t to be quicker than the SS?
I get a warm fuzzy feeling thinking about a 6 than can trump an 8. Surely Ford must have more power for the v8 fans with BF2. Surely? |

im not worried the ba gt was king when compared to hsv at the time. doesnt anyone remember that the xr8 had the same power as the clubsport and the gt was being compaired to a gts worth 30 grand more. times are changing and its time for holden to out show ford. ford have built great cars to give holden a close fight. our cars are nearly 6 years old in design and they still rival if not better in the 6s....trhe v8s are a different story because it seems to me that holden just invested on improving its v8s but i wouldnt be surprised if orion turns it all around for ford again....they dont have to work on the 6s because they are more then enough competion for holden so now ford are free to work their v8s...we have seen people reach easy 11s and 12s in xr8 with a few tunes and etc...there is still plenty of potential in the boss, its just up to ford to release it....they might update the boss just enough for bf2 to keep ford rivaling holden, they most likely wont surpass the holden but they will keep us happy enough untill orion. we dont know what is installed for orion but they may just drop the boss for a bigger newer engine. either way the boss has had a good run and it will still retire being one of the great engines

It keeps things interesting and only proves that both bring out the best in eachother. Bring on the next generation Ford V8. I just hope Holden does something with the V6, so it can compete with the XR6T. |

Bugger the stats on paper, if I had $50~k right now, I know where it'd land.. 6sp auto XR8. Who cares if the SS is faster.. those new age chev engines arent trustworthy, the LS1 had some horrible quality control issues. Besides, the XR8 looks H O R N. Anyway, a visit to G&D, or Bluepower, and the SS is no longer a worry :

Ford on the other hand has grabbed an oversquare truck engine that was designed for torque not racing to hold up the Blue camp end. It is not the fault of this engine as it was never designed to do what everyone wants it to do economically, and if it wasn’t for good old Aussie know how in developing the heads, we would of had nothing in a hipo V8 at all. If the Corvette is the flagship for GM muscle cars which allow engineers to design these power plants in the first place, why hasn’t Ford done the same thing with the Mustang over the last 40 years? The Corvette was never allowed to be bastardised through its 50 year life span, however the Mustang name was allowed to be prostituted especially through the 70's. The upshot of it all is, today we still don’t have an American muscle car that would rival the Corvette or the V8 we so desperately need from it because of the mistakes made back then. Either Holden can consider themselves very lucky because someone else has been holding the candle for them, or Ford Aus can consider themselves unlucky because Ford US has a history of not caring until it is too late. |

Nope. The way I see it is this: My VT GTS has a mere 220kw and 475nm, it is slower than cars half its original price.. ie - XR6T/XR8/SS/SSV, not to mention all the current FPV/HSV offerings. This doesnt bother me one bit, I love driving that car, its good for about a 14.8 second 1/4 mile. Mildly modded AU I6's are quicker than my once mighty GTS! True, the VE SS now annihilates the FPV GT.. so what? It doesnt make the GT any less of a car. The GT has presence and poise the SS doesnt have, and the price reflects this. What I'm saying basically, is that outright speed / 1/4 mile times arent the final word on performance. |

The GT is still a awesome looking car though. My VL gets beaten by a large majority of cars. Mostly twin cam 4s, but that doesn't worry me either. _2: |

Ooooh I forgot to mention, regarding BFYB, where was the 300C SRT8?! Sure, its a luxo barge, its heavy, it floats, its got average dynamics.. but its got 6.1 litres and 317kw!!! I got a chance to drive one at work couple of weeks ago. They have got to be the most insane car I've ever driven.. you cant launch it without bagging it up. Insane car.. scary. :

Any comments regarding modified cars are really irrelevent(SP?). The discusion is about brand new cars out of the factory and as such the SS has it over the Xr8 and "so it seems" the typhoon.... in a 1/4 mile drag at least. WE WANT ORION NOW!

It is interesting that their are numerous auto BF phoons running a half second quicker, we have one in our club up here who has no problems belting out 13's each and evey run - stock......Yes it depends on driver and track conditions etc, but a 1/2 sec is a huge difference and is worth some thought, as said the terminal speed also shows the strength of the phoon.

Manual SS 0-100: 5.2 400m: 13.4@174.9 Oran Park Track Time: 36.8 Compared to the Auto Typhoon. 0-100:5.4 400m: 13.5@175.1 Oran Park Time: 36.5 so the SS is .1 sec quicker??

BFYB is a relativistic comparison. It is just another way to sell magazines. There appears to be copious quantities of wailing and gnashing of teeth from the glitterati. Build a bridge. If it had won "shiniest gear knob of the year" would you still all be so wounded? Whenever I read one of these tests I always remember that the Leyland P76 got "Car of the Year". This throws into sharp relief the relevance of these awards to the real world..... |
