The good thing with the older GT's was when you saw one coming down the road you knew it.
The sound, Spoilers, paint outs, grille, shakers, air vents, aggresive stance etc etc... you just couldnt match them. Now tho every XR6 - XR8 etc that comes your way has the typical head lights, stripes blah blah... they havent got that WOW here comes a GT look about them (its almost to the point were your oblivious to them because they seem so common). In my opinion they should have been as tight as the Brock Commodores. We cut and shut one and we had to get 2 people out from HDT to verify that it was genuine so they would replace stickers, fractured spoilers and the like. I havent seen to many mock ups? IMHO the GT looks like every BA XR on the road. Its lost its wow factor. No Disrespect to the owners - they have paid a lot of money for a great car. But if i owned one i'd be ****ed because i have bought a specialty car that any joe can pretty much can copy. Must be hurting the resale value. IMO Stripes / Shakers / Decals / GT Badges should be left to the real thing |

Bulges stickers is find on any XR or FPV models but stipes are left for the GT heritage! I hate any XR with GT stripes on them. It's wrong.

Sounds like some people think FPV invented the wheel.
Other cars use stripes. (before FPV) Other cars have bonnet buldges. (before FPV) They aren't jumping up and down complaining that FPV cars now have bonnet buldges etc... Some XR's are going to have stripes, decals bonnet buldges etc etc. If you're so insecure about the 'recognisability' of your GT and you only bought it to be 'noticed' - then that's your problem. (just talking in general - not to anyone specific :togo: ) If someone wants to do up their car, that's their decision. Stiff S**t if it annoys some FPV owners who think their cars are 'sacred' and only deserved of the magical stripes. They're freaking stripes!! If that's all GT owners have to praise (buldges and stripes) - then there musn't be much else about the car that's anything special. You can stick a bonnet buldge and stripes on a 82 Celica - save yourself about $60k and go that way if that's what floats your boat. |

Depends solely on the colour schemes (Decals) - I like my silver decals on the Blueprint and how good does CDAAs wasp look - really sets the car off - you would definately see this one coming down the street.. I like many of the XRs having stripes - Geckos is sweet and there are several others that stand out of the crowd.
Some of the XRs have greater horsepower than our GTs and should be promoted a bit more with decals and bonnet bulges - "the wow factor" to a car is great...... |

Does anybody remember when and why FPV put the bonnet bulge stickers on, i distinctly remember plenty of XR8 and GT's with the stickers out the front of broadmeadows for the show and shine, long before they were factory fitted.
Personnally i like the bonnet sticker but not the stripes, each to their own. |

Well said, to each his own. FWIW I think sometimes Ford gets the stripes right, sometimes they get them wrong. XY GT and GS - good. Cobra - the best. BA/BF GT - wrong, wrong, wrong. They are, to my eyes, too tacky and look like a Supercheap Auto stick-on pack. Saw a BA in Cobra colours the other day - looked magic. I don't care if its not original. What looks good looks good, and what doesn't, doesn't. In the end, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Remember that when somebody introduces you to his wife. |

I remember the GS pack Ford used to do in the 70's, made the base Falcons look as horn as the GTs, right down to the XA/XB bonnet scoops. Nobody was hassled about them being "GT mock-ups" then, and I don't see why an S-pack should cause an XR owner any aggravation. Anybody with any remote interest could tell a GS from a GT, or an S-pack from an XR, in a flash. So who can really give a rats backside about it? |

Whilst thinking about the XA/XB GS packs, one other critically important matter comes to mind. The GS pack also gave you the GT dash, which included 4 extra guages above the tach and speedo, in place of warning lights for temp, oil, voltage and ????.
That, of itself, isn't really the important bit. What DID matter was that in a standard Falcon 500, the tacho and speedo gauges were inset into a couple of nacelles that provided a useful resting place for your beer. They were just the right hight to hold a can securely. The problem with the GS/GT dash was that the gauges encroached on this space, and your can wouldn't fit. Bearing in mind that in the 1970's the alcohol limit was 0.08, not that anybody cared, because there was no RBT. I used to measure my trips in beers. Maitland to Penrith, for example, was a 9 beer drive. There were no cupholders in those days, so the XA/XB design feature was really useful. I used to curse the GS/GT dashes because you had to drive with one hand, hold your beer with the other, and changing gears was a hassle.. |

Me, i'm for the bulge stickers, i think they really set the front of the car off, but so long as your not putting Boss 290 on a Boss 260, that is just cheating as far as i'm concerned, as far as the stripes go!, well they are for the GT, & GT only.

honestly i dont mind what people do to their own cars anymore, i know ill be chucking an XR8 bonnet on my six cyl BA (lol when i get one) but in saying that other mods should be done to the car first so its not just a bog stock XT with hubcaps rolling round with a bonnet bulge.
personally id have do a few things to the engine, drop it and stick some decent wheels on first. but thats just my opinion.

I saw a white EA with the thinnest 'Bulge' stickers I've ever seen, but they were on there nonetheless. Without the stickers, the 'bulge' is only a mild crease...

I'm all for people doing what they want to their car, but a bloke here in town seemed to be a little confused.
Driving along with what I thought was a Phantom XR8 coming up beside me. I look over to see Boss 290 stickers on the bulge, along with GT style stripes down the sides. I'm thinking "oh well, maybe he reckons he's got 290 Kw". I then look down further to see the XR6 badging on the skirts and as he takes off, the XR6 turbo badging on the boot. Weird

Hi guys only new here but saw this post and had to reply, I own a BA XR6 Mercury Silver ute and yes it does have stripes orange to be exact and it looks sweet others like it as well, I chose to put them on not not be like or copy the GT simlpy because I liked the look of them, my ute is no way a pursuit but I like the stripes so why not. For me it is up to personal choice and if you like or want them go for it and for people who dont like the idea they are able to have their own opinion.
Cheers |

For a BA XR8, hand spayed "BOSS 260" in appropriate colour coding is looks fantastic. For the GT, go the sticker then no "cloning" issues.
For my Bluepint XR8 will get "BOSS" in black and "260" in orange. Don't like the sticker |

what an individual does to their own car is surely up to them,if they like something it doesn't mean it is wrong to do.Every car has it's own good and bad points, there is only one perfect car,and that is mine, because it is the way that I want it.as I'm sure everyone else thinks their car is perfect for the same reason.I personly dont like the TS50 front bar or rear wing(I know, shock horror)I have a hawk rear wing which I love, yet I dont try and influence someones decision on whether to put TS stuff on their car or tell someone that their car is inferrior because I personally don't like something on their car.If I dont like stripes on a non GT or a bulge on a XR6,do you think if I asked nicely enough they would remove them for my own peice of mind and well being? I think not,and why should they!personally have a shaker on an I6,some people think that is criminal and I should be hung up,I dont give a rats bum,is my car and if you don't like it then try to get over it.I think all holdens are a festering boil on the backside of earth, but they still for some reason sell their damn cars, nothing I can do about it,so I don't.Why worry about something you have no control over and get all worked up about something someone has done to their car, they didnt do it to yours while you were sleeping so no harm done and life goes on.The whole debate is rather stupid really.
